Jerry Richert Memorial for Mark Dobmeier
Only one race was on the schedule for Lunstra/Dobmeier
Motorsports this past weekend and that was the Jerry Richert
Memorial in New Richmond, Wisconsin on the very fast 3/8-mile
high-banked clay oval of Cedar Lake Speedway. The night
started out right by setting a time in the 10-second bracket which
was quick enough to hold second to Terry McCarl.
Dobmeier started on the outside of the third row for
the heat race and at the drop of the green, Mark blew forward and
passed up to second behind race leader Lynton Jeffery. Mark
showed his nose a few times to the veteran Australian throughout
the remaining laps, but Jeffery held his line and kept Dobmeier
back in the number two position.
“The guys had the car perfect for both qualifying and
the heat race,” explains Mark. “It’s always a lot of fun to
race with Lynton (Jeffery)…he is one of the hardest guys to pass
once you show him a nose. We feel really good going into the
main, we have been fast all night so far and we’re starting up
front.”
Dobmeier lined the Senske & Son Dekalb Seed #13 on
the inside of the second row for the main event, but when the race
began the car just didn’t look like it should.
“Right at the beginning the car didn’t act right,”
says Dobmeier. “After a few laps I realized that I had a
right rear tire going down.”
“Dynamite” Dobmeier held on to the fifth position with
the flattening right rear tire until it finally blew with under 10
laps to go. The crew replaced the tire under the caution and
Mark went to the rear of the field to restart with about 9 laps to
go.
He charged up to 14th in the remaining laps
to cap off the evening, but the team was disappointed in the
results because they had such a fast car early on in the
evening.
“We had a good night going,” says Mark. “We qualified
right, did well in our heat and earned a decent starting
position. We just had a bleeder leak all of the air out of
our right rear and then that obviously threw a curve ball into our
night. All in all I’m pretty happy with the show, the guys
worked hard and gave me a great car to drive and we’ll take this
into our next race at Spencer.”
Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports will be heading to
Spencer, Iowa for the World of Outlaws show this Wednesday and will
be following that event with a final run at River Cities, another
Outlaw event at Deer Creek on Saturday and finishing the weekend
out at Huset’s Speedway for their annual Cheater’s Day.
