Loomis, CA-March 19, 2007--By: Troy Hennig, Gary Perkins Motorsports PR Director
Grass Valley, California driver Brad Sweet enjoyed one of his best racing weekends in recent memory. The 21-year-old sprint car driver won his first career Golden State King of California Series main event victory on Friday night at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA. Sweet, driving the GP Development / LRB Manufacturing / Circle Race Wheels / A.R.T. Enterprises #6 passed reigning King of California champion Jonathan Allard on a late race restart to get the win. “It's exciting to get my first Golden State win but I think I'm more proud of how our team responded after a tough start in Chico the weekend before,” said Sweet. “Gary Perkins has put a lot into his team and I'm so happy we got out first win together in just a short amount of time.”
Sweet backed up his win on Friday by finishing fifth on Saturday night after starting in the 13^th spot. “This weekend we seemed to just click at Kings Speedway,” said Sweet. “We also have brought on board Rod Tiner the last two weekends and the car has been just so good for me to drive.”
Friday night Sweet qualified 5^th out of 30 drivers. He finished second in his heat race and also second in the dash. Saturday night Sweet timed in at 14^th quick. He won heat race two but did not make it into the dash. On Saturday night he passed eight cars to record the top five finish.
The team is getting ready for Placerville Speedway this weekend, round number five for the Golden State Series. Sweet has two wins at this track, both in the 360 division. “I'd have to say Placerville is my favorite track in California and I am looking forward to putting on a good show for all the fans this weekend.”
