Brett Miller scores 5th place finish during Feather Falls Casino Point Race #20 at Silver Dollar Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – August 23, 2009…Competing in the penultimate event for the Feather Falls Casino Championship Series on Friday night Chico's Brett Miller raced to a fifth place finish in the 25 lap 410 sprint car main event at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

Miller came into the evening following a ninth place finish the previous Friday and was happy to get back into the top-five during this most recent event. "It was a good finish for us tonight and the track was just really fast so it made it pretty hard to do things without others making mistakes in front of you," the 20 year-old competitor said. "I have to thank my grandparents and my whole team and hopefully we can come back here next week and put this car into victory lane."

The next to last event in the Feather Falls Casino point season saw a 22 car field on hand for the night and Miller kicked it off by qualifying seventh fastest overall in the Care Free Pools, Platinum Powder Coating, Live Energy Drink No. 1x. The Chico driver then started from the fourth position in the opening heat race and brought home a runner-up finish to transfer into the main event.

With the number eight pill being drawn for the inversion it put Miller in the third row for the feature and when the green lights came on he would settle into the fifth spot. The track remained extremely quick for the main event and the "Catfish" ran strongly in position like everyone else, until getting an opportunity during a lap eight restart when he charged to the low-side of Colby Copeland to move into fourth.

Just after that however, the yellow lights would come on and Miller would have to go back to fifth for the restart. The remainder of the race saw him run smooth and clean laps, while at the same time holding off the strong challenges of Kyle Hirst to cross under the checkered in fifth after 25 laps of racing. "It was tough to have the yellow come out and have to go back behind Colby because we made a nice move there to get under him on that restart," said Miller. "It was one of those things though, but at least we got a solid finish and could roll the car into the trailer at the end of the night so we're happy with it."

This coming Friday will be Coca Cola/Napa Auto Parts Championship Night at the Silver Dollar Speedway as the Feather Falls Casino point season comes to a conclusion. After not competing in the event last season Miller will look for a strong run to try and bring home the 6-foot tall Coca Cola Championship Night trophy that has been a staple at the track for a number of years. The evening of action will also be the final tune-up at the track prior to the 56th Gold Cup Race of Champions and one of the strongest field's of the Friday night season is expected to be seen.

The event on Friday will also mark fan appreciation night at the Silver Dollar Speedway and tickets will be just $5 for adults with kids 11 and under being free. The pits will open at 3pm and the front grandstand gate will open at 5, an hour earlier than normal. For more info on the event this coming Friday visit
