I have been watching sprint car racing now for over 50 years, but last night's Ron Shuman Classic at Lakeside was the best I have ever seen! I race-long torrid battle between the top three runners (Hud Cone, Jesse Hockett, and Brady Bacon) dicing through traffic and putting on slide jobs. All three of them (and some others) would scream down the front straight with the left-front wheel in the air, then haul it into turn one like they all had their life insurance paid in full! I have never seen anything like it! There were seven flips in the feature alone, and four flips in the heat races. It is a minor miracle that on one was critically injured. I am going to frame the program and ticket I bought last night. I hope and pray that High Plains or someone else taped last night's program. Anyone else see this race? Am I exaggerating or not? Comments?

I taped the Ron Shuman Classic weekend and hope to have highlights and DVD info posted real soon.
Yes it was a fantastic (and a little scary) race weekend. Lakeside always seems to produce exciting racing.

As ALWAYS Lakeside Speedway produced a GREAT GREAT racing event. It was just a damn shame that another race was booked against it. There were some competitors and fans that were forced to make a decision to go one direction or another. As it was.....Lakeside Speedway still produced an awesome event. The Ron Shuman Classic has established its self as a MUST SEE event as the racing is just excellent year after year.
Marc Olson and Staff are always a top notch organization. It is ALWAYS a pleasure to attend one of their events. If you haven't attended this event before, make it a must see event in your future racing plans. You will leave knowing you will want to return again.
From the staff (Lakeside's and Sprint Bandits), to the fans and competitors, thanks for making the 2009 Ron Shuman Classic another top notch event!

The racing was very good once they got the feature started, I believe there were 3 flips before a lap was completed. From Lap 4 thru 28, the action was very exciting. Bacon won, but the star of the show was Hud Cone. He was flying on the cushion and passed quite a few cars.
If anything, the track was too fast. Not a lot of passing other than Cone, but the leaders did have to pass a lot of lapped cars.
Lakeside is a good facility, wish they would have a few more sprint car shows.
