Dodge City/81 Speedway Ready for NCRA Late Models
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Midwest City, Oklahoma - August 11, 2009 - After an eventful weekend which saw the top two drivers in series points put on a passing clinic in the feature finale in Nebraska, it is back to action once again this coming weekend as the O'Reilly/NCRA late model division makes two stops in the Jayhawk State. It all begins on Saturday night as the tour makes their first and only appearance of the season at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas for the "Cowboy Capital NCRA Late Model Stock Car Nationals." From there drivers will head to the home of NCRA and their second and final appearance of the year at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas for a Sunday night affair.
2002 series champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska comes into the weekend as the series points leader with a 240 point lead over Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen. While Berck may be leading the series points, the focus is on four time and defending series champion Boen as he has won seven of the past eight Hard Rock Hotel-Casino features held. He also has amassed eight feature wins this season, besting the old series late model record of seven in one season set by, you guessed it, Boen ('05, '07).
Sitting third in series points is Atlantic, Iowa's Jason O'Brien while Mike Collins of Carter Lake, Iowa is fourth in the point standings. Jason Friesen currently sits fifth in the series standings while Cory Zeitner of Bellevue, Nebraska sits sixth. Only 160 points separate positions three through sixth with four point races remaining, including this weekend.
Other series regulars expected to compete during the weekend are Mike Wiarda, Craig Preble, Shawn Harker, Scott Koskovich, Wylan Petrie, Greg Larson, Delbert Smith, Dave Conkwright and Ted Martin.
Six O'Reilly/NCRA late model events have taken place at the beautiful 3/8ths mile clay oval at Dodge City Raceway Park with Boen picking up three feature victories. Other drivers having reached victory lane include Steve Kosiski, Brett LaFollette and Al Purkey.
81 Speedway has seen Boen dominate action at the home track of NCRA as he previously won five out of six races held there until earlier this season when Hermitage, Missouri's Eric Turner took home the feature win back in June.
Dodge City Raceway Park is located at the corner of 14th Ave. and US 56 in Dodge City. Gates will open at 4:00 PM with racing set for 7:30 PM. Tickets are $15 dollars for General Admission, Sr. Citizens can get in for $10 dollars and kids 12 and under are $7 bucks.
