Tommy Tarlton Finishes 4th with GSC at Ocean Speedway

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, CA (August 8, 2009) – Tommy Tarlton put in a strong showing with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series at Ocean Speedway. Tarlton has only raced a handful of times this year with the series, but has been fast every time that the Tarlton & Son, Inc. No 21 hits the racetrack.

The driver from Easton, CA, drove around Ocean Speedway in the Paul Baines wrenched mount, in qualifying with a 12.377 which timed him in eighth quick out of the 26-car-field. Tarlton then went onto win his heat race in convincing fashion. His heat race win would put him into the all-important 6 lap dash that sets up the first four rows of the 30 lap feature.

Tarlton would stand on the gas in the dash, and move from his fifth starting spot to finish third in the short event. Tarlton would now start third for the 30 lap feature event via his dash finish.

Jason Statler and Bud Kaeding would start the event in front of Tarlton, with good friend Brad Furr flanked to his right. When the green lights flashed on around the speedway, Tarlton immediately went to work trying to find the fastest way around the race track. Tarlton would begin to work the top of the race track in the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Shark powered Maxim. While running up front with the front-runners for most of the race, Tarlton eventually finished fourth in the event.

"That was a lot of fun out there. The car was working well – but obviously we were looking for a better finish," Tarlton said. "We seem to run pretty good here. We're right in the fight for the GLR Investments championship, so we'll be back here next week, and go after them again. I hope that the fans had a great time, and I also can't thank them enough for their continued support of Sprint Car racing during these tough times."

Tommy Tarlton will be back this Friday tearing-up the Ocean Speedway clay. Tarlton currently sits second in the point standings only six points back from point leader, Brent Kaeding. These two have been mixing it up all season in GLR competition. Tarlton scored third place in his last GLR Investments voyage.
