Tyler Walker Does It Again: Wins 8th GSC Main Event

By Gary Costa

Petaluma, CA (August 1, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team had another great weekend en route to their eighth victory of the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car season. The victory also tied Tim Kaeding's single-season win record that was set in 2004. With the victory came a sweep of the events held at Petaluma Speedway (4/11-8/1).

In qualifying, Walker's night started out with a blistering lap of 11.990 aboard the Lee Lindgren wrenched mount. It was the first time a Sprint Car has ever turned a lap in the 11 second bracket at Petaluma Speedway. In preliminary action Walker lined-up Scott and Kathy Chastain's lightning-fast JEI for his heat race in the fourth position where Walker flashed across the line in third position. In the dash, Walker sped to finish third.

"The car is just wicked-fast right now. The crew is working their tails off for us to stay ahead of the competition," Lindgren said. "I can't put it into words as to how proud I am to be part of this team. Everyone – I mean everyone works real hard to make this team what it is. We're focused going into Ocean Speedway, but I also have my sights set on winning a race or two in Iowa as well."

When the green flag flew in the 30 lapper Walker immediately began to chase Brent Kaeding. During the halfway point, Walker wrestled the lead away from Kaeding, and Walker began to work heavy lapped traffic. Walker would not be denied however as he charged to his jaw-dropping eighth victory of the season.

"This win means a lot to me and my team. To win eight main events against these guys is something that we're real proud of," Walker said. "I've said it all year; I have the best group of people behind me. It's a great feeling knowing that I'm going to have a fast car under me each and every time that we hit the racetrack."

Walker carries a 16 point lead into Ocean Speedway this coming Saturday night with just two races remaining in Walker's charge at his first career King of California title. Walker will also be looking for his ninth win of the GSC season to set a new all-time season win record. Walker picked-up an early season win there back on April 25. After the race at Ocean Speedway, the SC Motorsports team will be heading for Iowa when the Ocean Speedway race concludes. Their first stop will be the Front Row Challenge where Walker is a two-time winner ('98 & '02) of the event and finished second in his heat race and main event there last year. Then it's time to get after it at the Knoxville Nationals
