This last Sunday was the second day of the O’Reilly All Star
Circuit of Champions double-header and the 33 cars that showed up all had their
eyes on that $10,000 payday. Driver Websites was at the event supporting their
clients Terry McCarl, Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Mark Dobmeier, all in their attempt
for an All Star Victory.
Terry McCarl – http://www.terrymccarl.com
Terry McCarl out of Altoona, IA in the Big Game Motorsports #24 set the fastest
time of 11 flat on the high banked 3/8ths. He lined up sixth in the first heat
race behind the 83r of Tim Kaeding and powered up to 4th throughout the 8 lap
contest to guarantee him a starting spot in the main.
He started on the outside of the front row for the 30 lap main event and
quickly grabbed the lead from All Star regular, Tim Shaffer. With a couple red
flags and cautions, TMAC was able to hold his position in the lead to gather
the $10 Large.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. – http://www.sam15.com
Sunnyvale, TX native Sam Hafertepe Jr. piloting the GH Plumbing 15h qualified
10th with a time of 11.16, just a mere tenth and a half off the pace of the
leader. He started on the outside of the second row in the heat race behind
Huset’s regular Chad Meyer and was able to drive forward one position to cap
off the heat with a third place finish.
With his time and heat race efforts, Sam started right behind the pole sitter
in the second row to begin the 30 lap chase to the 10K. Hafertepe and Shaffer
battled it out for second for the majority of the race until the #24 of McCarl
started to catch the lap traffic and slow his pace. The two battling for second
caught McCarl going into the final turn in which Hafertepe was then able to
capitalize and overtake the 83 for second. “If it had been forty laps, I think
we may be seeing the 15 in victory lane tonight,” explains Sam.
The original 40 lap main was shortened to 30 due to the skies being lit up by
the surrounding thunderstorms.
Mark Dobmeier – http://www.markdobmeier.com
Mark Dobmeier of Grand Forks, ND lined up on the outside pole for the heat race
in which he quickly grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and led the 8-lap
event from flag to flag and placing him on the outside of row 8 for the start
of the main event.
At the start of the main, another racer slid in front of the Senske & Son
Delta Oil #13 causing the car to turn right and slam into the front stretch
wall creating a near five car crash. This incident forced Mark to the pits to
make a very disappointing evening for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports.
