Was it the last because NASCAR was going to come in and pave the joint?

I think most flat track bikes run with no brakes, believe it or not its a safety thing.

This would be great to see as I lived in Stkn for 6 yrs in the late 70's-early 80's. They tried getting an auto race there but the horsey people had all the cheap stupid reasons you could think of so it never got off the ground and scheduled. Did manage to see a race at SJ with Joe Leonard as the grand marshall. He walked slow and with a cain. I am sure Springfield, ILL is great stuff. A fantastic photo opportunity. Go see bikes on a mile,

Years ago, most flattrack bikes didn't run brakes at all. Didn't need them. If I hadn't got old and fat, I'd still be flattrackin'! Best racing in the world. They started putting brakes on the rear wheels and it started messing the racing up. Seemed like more accidents and the tracks started narrowing up and single groove. Guess that was "progress?"

Telling my age but I didn't run brakes either.
