It's painful to see that picture. I am glad it got posted, but every time I think about the way we got pushed out of that place and the way they tore down the grandstands just as fast as posssible once they got us out I get really pissed!!!! I think we should sue the county and anyone else involved in the demolition of those grandstands and take our track back.
Now an answer...I used to sit in the top rows In turn 4

I wouldn't blame just liberals for the closing of race tracks, there are plenty of right wing developers who want and often get their money grubbing hands on racing facilities. All so they can build more useless crap. Madera Speedway was nearly lost to developers but thankfully that got axed. Hell a developer built luxury homes above Santa Maria Speedway and you know they didnt give a rats butt about what that would do to the track. Thankfully the developer never got the proper water rights and as such their are dozens upon dozens of brand new empty homes sitting there unsold and unfinished. I hope they end up having to level the homes. In my opinion what tracks are most up against all over this country is the NIMBY (not in my backyard) types.

Stockton 99 speedway was closed and torn-down (for yet another amphitheatre deal that fell thrgu)and then thankfully resurrected with all the original stuff

I used to sit in the corner of the upper row of the lower section below the pressbox, the walkway right behind us... I can still hear that announcer at about 7PM on a Saturday night, "folks I need to ask you to stand up and slide toward the center, we've still got people coming in". They used to pack that place.
For old times, sake, "Go Rescino, Boo Sargent..."
Man, those were fun times & its sad to think what happend to it. Thank you Blanca Alvarado. Hope the loss of that "music venue" she had planned still stings :-).

From 78 through 80 we sat right in front of the press box. After that we moved down towards turn 4, always high up.
I also remember the Open Comp shows at the end of the year in 76 and 77. That's when the grandstand was still covered.
I always wish I had taken two last laps. One putting around, and another at speed. Not sure how the SharkMobile would've handled it, but still, it would've been fun.
Those pictures were taken about a year after the track closed.

Liberal state? Soon to be called Northern Mexico. Every time they raise the taxes on the few paying taxes, more taxpayers leave the state, so they have to raise taxes again, then more taxpayers leave the state, on and on until you have what's left now.
Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Only got there a few times but some things stick out like yesterday.
An owl was living in some old tires in the infield down near turns 1 & 2 and I had some great pics of him sitting there on a tire, pissed off, watching hot laps.
I remember Randy Tiner flipping out of the ballpark (coming out of turn 4 into the pits) running over the top of Sammy at the start of the A-Main, sheesh what was he thinking, Sammy will get the jump on anyone at the start of a race...
There was an opening in the fence in turn 3 that was barely big enough to get a car into when running at speed, by into I mean my camera lens and the background in this gap was the mountains and it was a spectacular view. Jeff Swindell was my favorite shot from here and I hope Bob Kramer still looks at that 16 x 20 to this day, it was one of top 5 fav's of all-time.
I also remember the fun times at the High 5 pizza joint after the races where EVERYBODY, racers included went to. It was kinda funny to watch Brent Kaeding help out behind the bar (speaking as an ex-bartender) and Grove Hill would play the video from that nights event, Lord those were the good ol' days for this small town Canadian kid. Take It Easy....
