Two More Wins and a Near Top Ten for Mark Dobmeier
7/28/2009
The home track of
River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND is where Lunstra/Dobmeier
Motorsports began their three-day race weekend. Mark, with his
high point average, started in the back of the heat race at eighth
and came up to second behind the 10TR of Bob Martin.
The second place
finish in the heat race lined the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 on
the outside of the fourth row for start of the main event. With
12 laps to go, Mark took advantage of the well prepared race track
and passed Chris Shirek for the lead and by the time the checkered
flag was thrown, Mark had over a ½ track lead taking his 8th
win of the 2009 season.
“Tonight was a lot of
fun,” explains the River Cities veteran. “The track was awesome and I
was able to keep the car up top except for a few bottom runs while we
were moving forward. There were lanes on both the bottom and
the top which gave us a lot of room to race; I’m sure the fans loved
this one!”
Following the win at
River Cities, it was off to Knoxville to prepare themselves for the
49th Annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals. Dobmeier
qualified late in the field with a 16.000 second time and then was
able to start the heat race from the front row on the outside of
Johnny Herrera.
Dobmeier took the
early lead in the heat, but lost the position to Herrera going into
the second lap. The two took off from there leaving the field
behind them and Dobmeier ended the heat in the number 2
position.
Starting 17th
in the main event, Mark charged forward up to ninth until a slice in
the right rear tire caused the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 to
slow. Mark was able to salvage an 11th place finish
in the feature which keeps Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports in the
seventh position in the chase to the championship.
“We’re still working
on a few things for the nationals,” explains Mark. “I think we
are very close and we expect to be very fast this year. It was
a little disappointing having the right rear (tire) go down…when we
came in pits after the main we checked the air and it was down to 3 pounds
so it made the car feel like I was on a sponge.”
Following Knoxville’s
11th place finish, it was off to Huset’s Speedway for
Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports. Mark set a tenth quick time with
an 11.432 to begin the evening on the fast high-banked 3/8ths dirt
oval and lined up 4th in the heat.
Dobmeier quickly
grabbed the lead at the start of the 10 lap heat and didn’t look back
until the drop of the black and white as he took yet another heat
race victory at the “Home of the Professionals.”
He began the 25 lap
main event from the inside of the third row and with only 6 laps down
the caution flag threw and bunched up the pack. At the time of
restart, Dobmeier went low as the 11x of Greg Bakker went high going
into turn one. “Dynamite” Dobmeier grabbed the lead coming out
of turn 2 and led the remainder of the event capturing his 3rd
win of the season at Huset’s and 9th overall for the 2009
season.
