Bud Kaeding scores third place finish with Silver Crown Series at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indy/ Takes 42 point lead into Iowa Speedway this Friday

By Gary Thomas

Indianapolis, IN – July 28, 2009…Continuing his quest at another USAC K&N Silver Crown Series title Campbell, CA's Bud Kaeding raced to a third place finish this past Thursday at the O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis aboard the BK Motorsports, MPD Racing Products, YAK Graphics No. 29.

Going into this most recent event Kaeding maintained a 21 point lead over Tony Stewart Racing driver Tracy Hines and looked to extend the mark as he searches to become just the second driver to win the Silver Crown championship on three different occasions.

The J.D. Byrider 100 on Thursday at the O'Reilly Raceway Park attracted a strong field of 32 USAC K&N Silver Crown cars and Kaeding began the event by keeping up his strong qualifying this season with the series by clocking the fourth quickest lap in the field. It put him in the second row for the 100 lap race and a non-stop affair occurred on the .686 mile paved oval with the 29 year-old charger scoring a third place finish at the checkered flag.

The race was eventually captured by Bobby Santos III and also included fellow California winged sprint car driver and current Golden State Challenge Series point leader Tyler Walker, who finished fifth. Kaeding's third place finish coupled with a 12th place result for Hines has allowed the Campbell veteran to extend his Silver Crown Series point lead to 42 digits with six events to go.

After the event in Indy Kaeding flew back to California for a double-header weekend with the Golden State Challenge Series at Silver Dollar Speedway and the outing started off well with him timing-in fourth quickest out of 31 cars on Friday. Problems in the heat race left him with an eighth place finish, but he would then rebound in the semi for a runner-up finish to transfer into the 30 lap feature, before having a motor let-go while running among the top 10 late in the main event.

He then came back on Saturday and used his father Brent's back-up motor for the 26th annual Tribute to Gary Patterson, but it didn't last long as the engine blew up in hot-laps and left Kaeding watching the rest of the evening.

Up next for Kaeding and BK Motorsports will be the USAC K&N Silver Crown Series sanctioned Casey's General Stores Challenge at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on Friday. The two-time series champ will look to extend his current advantage in the standings on the beautiful 7/8 mile paved oval and will be searching for his second Silver Crown victory of the year.
