RUTHERFORD WINS ALL COAST CONSTRUCTION CHALLENGE
by Lee Elder

VENTURA, Calif., (July 26, 2009) – Troy Rutherford grabbed the lead halfway through the race and went on to beat a star-studded field and win the All Coast Construction Challenge sprint car race at Ventura Raceway.

Rutherford (of Ojai) had to hold off Ventura’s defending series champion, Kevin Kierce (Reseda) and Cory Kruseman (Ventura) to win the special race. The Challenge is a special three-race series at Ventura.

Rutherford was the last of four drivers to lead the big race. Kierce now leads the Challenge standings as well as the regular season points chase. In the Challenge standings, Kierce has 475 points, followed by Rutherford with 465.

Also on Saturday, Victory Davis (Simi Valley) in the Senior Sprints, Greg Tucker (Ojai) won the IMCA Modified race, Ray Estrada (Yucaipa) won the Pro Dwarf Car main, Brent Underwood (Camarillo) continued his amazing season by winning the Sport Compact Rear Wheel Drive feature, Darren Gunnell won the Sport Compact Front Wheel Drive main and Chriss Gibbs (Lakewood) won the Karts feature.

Heck of a race! Four wide coming off turn 2. Passing action all over the track. Templeman got a raw deal. Hate to see the leader taken out by impatients. Strong driving all over the track. Henrys front wheels were pointing in two directions but managed to hang on and finish 8th. Taylor had no power steering and was manhandling it to the end. Excellent surface for the sprint main. But reality ice dancing for the IMCA race.

I figured Faria Jr, would of been in santa maria last weekend ? I heard he was really fast in VENTURA during the Main, until he packed the rightrear full of clay with ten to go. Man do we love watching him!

If Faria is so good, then why does he drive like an a$$? You are right. He was fast. Maybe too fast for Ventura. Every time I've seen him race, he is knocking someone out of his way or over-powering the track and bouncing off the walls. Maybe just his style. I'm not a fan of that in the sprints. Maybe streets though.

I don't always post negative. I've only seen Faria race in Ventura, and it seems like he is very aggressive. I'm sure he is a good guy, but that is just the way I've seen it at Ventura. And talking out my a$$ is just one of my talents, Thank you.

Didn't mean to offend. Just my opinion.

Danny Faria is a good clean racer. He elevates every race he enters as is exhibited when he shows up at Ventura he is a threat to win every time same goes for Santa Maria. I would say Danny is definitely NOT a dirty driver.

I never said he was a 'dirty' driver.

You're not saying that he might have stolen dirt in his trailer? That dirt will just turn to dust if you get it too far from the ocean. lol.

Thanks, tripcrwn.

I should not have said the word a**. Too aggressive maybe. I try to say what is on my mind and sometimes I get negative. But I never said he drives dirty. The guy drives his arse off and is usually the fastest car out there. With that said, he is not winning Saturday night. The Kruser is gonna win.
