Dobmeier Passes 43 Cars This Past Weekend…

7/20/2009

Mark Dobmeier in the Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports #13 started out this last weekend of racing at his home track of River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Going into the Friday evening, Dobmeier currently leads the points chase at the speedway and has five feature wins on the high-banked 4/10ths oval.

He started in the back of the heat race at eighth and passed his way up to third and with the third place finish in the heat, the Senske & Son Delta Oil machine lined up on the outside of row number 4 of the main event. “The track fooled us for the first time in a long time,” explains Dobmeier. “We thought the track was going to dry out a little more that so we had the car tight for most of the race.” He certainly made an exciting show for the fans as with the tight race car at one time in the event, he nailed the throttle coming out of turn four and “wheelied” down the front stretch going into turn one. Mark raced his way up to fourth to cap off the evening finishing behind Wade Nygaard, Dave Glennon and feature winner, Casey Mack.

Following the top five at River Cities, it was off to Knoxville Raceway. “Going into tonight we wanted to try a few things to prepare ourselves for the upcoming nationals,” says Mark. “We had to work a few new ideas on the racetrack this week so we knew if it was something we should pursue for next week.”

The ideas didn't exactly work out as planned as the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 qualified 21st with a time of 15.684, almost a half second off the quick time of 15.188 set by Seth Brahmer.

The Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports team put the car back to normal and lined up 7th for the heat race. Entering into turn 3, Mark went low on the racetrack and caught the inside of the track causing the car to turn left abruptly and Dobmeier backed into the famous retaining wall of Knoxville Raceway destroying the tail tank.

The crew hurried to fix the car to get it ready for the Semi in which another seventh place starting position was waiting for him. Dobmeier raced up to fourth to make the transfer in the main event.

He lined up 19th for the start of the main event and was able to pass up inside the top ten to ninth.

“We certainly hoped for a better finish tonight,” explains the Grand Forks native. “Qualifying where we did kind of put us behind the eight ball. But, we were able to get those ideas out of our system and we’ll be more than ready for the weeks to come and certainly for the nationals.”

After Saturday’s Knoxville event, Huset’s Speedway was next in line. With a 3rd fast time against the 21 cars on the fast high banked oval and a eighth to fifth run in the heat race, Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports decided to take the challenge to start in the rear of the main event.

At the beginning of the 2009 season, Baete-Forseth put up a challenge for any driver in the 410 Outlaw Class that elected to start at the rear of the field, a $5000 bonus would be paid if that driver would come from the rear of the field to win the event. Well, Mark Dobmeier took that challenge and elected to start at the rear of the 21-car field in hopes of making a $7500 payday.

At the drop of the flag, Mark got a great start and began passing cars. Up to the top five of the field, Mark nearly spun and got passed by four cars creating the challenge even that much more difficult. He was able to make his way up to 3rd, which as impressive as that is, disappointed Mark. “The car was amazing,” says Dobmeier. “I could put the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 wherever I needed to and I think if I wouldn’t have nearly spun towards the end I really felt we could have won the race. But, coming from 21st to 3rd is pretty impressing and it certainly makes us very proud!”

FAST FACTS ON DOBMEIER:

Mark graduated from The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in which he then put the degree to work as he currently has a business in his hometown called Forx Radiator where he specializes in radiator repair and other vehicle service work.

Mark has over 125 Sprint Car Feature Wins and currently is leading the points battle at both River Cities Speedway and Huset’s Speedway. He sits 7th in the points standings at Knoxville Raceway behind Sydney, Australia native Kerry Madsen.

This past weekend “Dynamite” Dobmeier passed a total of 43 cars throughout the three races at River Cities, Knoxville and Huset’s.
