The one race I have been looking forward to all year seems to be kept kind of hush hush as far as what to expect for driver entrants. I mean are we going to have 25 of the top USAC guys show up and Label this show the "Knoxville Non Wing Nationals"? I've looked through the different sacntions on the SCRA website and while many don't have races scheduled that day, they also don't mention anything about a Knoxville date. I seen on an earlier post where someone did not know whether to make the trip as they did not know what to expect. How about a little more insight Knoxville.. Pre Entry List / Predictions ??

I'm predicting it will be the best race of the whole week.

surely they will get close to 50 cars, but I expect the crowd to be smaller than the night before or any the rest of week at knoxville, best race of the week, i doubt that, but guess I do not really care as I will not spend my money to attend and it will be either a TSR or KK car win it, track be dry slick and they will turn blazing 24 second laps

Wait until you see Larry Woodwards non-wing car that Troy Renfro has put together for Johnny "Hollywood". Lets go wingless. This car will be easy to see, it will be up front.

It'll be really cool to see a non-wing show at Knoxville. Something I don't ever get to see up here in my neck of the woods.

Other than knoxville, for the 410 and 360, and the late model race, tell me another track that requires pre-entries and post them...they have to have pre-entrys for the 360 and 410's due to trying to balance the qualifying nights in advance...and the late model race has a maximum number of entrants. Kville isn't posting anything because there is no pre-entry requirement..duh...they don't know who is going to show for sure...yeah, they have had some suprises say they are gonna run it, but then you advertise it and they don't show and people get pissed...My guess is in the upper 30's or 40's...and thats plenty for the first year...maybe they should of called it something different so all of the keyboard camandos don't automatically think..."nationals..there will be a 100 cars!!!".....it will be a hell of a show with 20 or 60 cars....

The Knoxville non-wing track record is 18.795 set by Jay Drake on June 21, 2000.....so I think they may be turning faster laps than 24 seconds Carl....

I can't believe no one else called me out on that, LOL
OK so it will be closer to 22 perhaps even 23, at feature time as I bet they will have it extra dry and slick tying to slow and safe it

I'm not sure you can call something a "Nationals" for the purse they have posted on the Knoxville website. I'll go, get my beer and nachos and be grateful the non-wangers are back but my guess is that there won't be a ton of outside support for this one.
Purse
2009 Casey's Knoxville USAC Non-wing Nationals Purse

Other than Wed & Thur qualifying nights, this is the one show I'm looking forward to most as well. Car count is over rated in my book. As long as I see a good race, it doesn't matter if there are 20 cars or 100. I think this event will start small and grow if it's received well by fan support. If you want to see more non-wing racing at Knoxville get out and support it folks. It's not going to pay $30,000 to win to start out with, but if the fans show up, sponsors will follow, and the payouts will come with that. But I will say, after my trip to Inidiana last week to Bloomington, Kamp, and Terre Haute, I saw some awesome racing. Kamp especially. How often can throw a blanket over the top 3 or 4 cars for the lead? 2 of the 3 nights I saw that. Heat inverts are 8 as well. Makes for a good show. Just hope it's a safe one. But I'm glad Knoxville decided to pull the plug on the 360 ToC and replace it with a non-wing show. Good move I think.

I agree ....who cares how many cars are in the pits .... one of the best open wheel features I ever saw had like 16 cars start it (all that were in the pits)
Too many cars draws out the show .... the cream will always raise to the top, less cars translates into less chances of the 'cream' getting crashed out in a qualifying.

It's not a real big purse, especially for something billed as a "Nationals," but a lot of Indiana guys are talking like they'll go. I'll try to get a decent list together for you guys...
I'm just praying that they have a good race track. They need a good, thick cushion. And quite honestly, on the big tracks, a slick track is more dangerous for non-wing cars than a heavy one. I see it time and time again!
For now: 1 ? (Yeley) G1 Hunter Schuerenberg 2B Dave Darland 2W Johnny Herrera 7 Bryan Clauson 9 Brad Sweet 9K Kevin Thomas, Jr. 11 ? (Walker) 13 Jesse Hockett 17 Shane Hmiel 17F Nic Faas 17R Kyle Robbins (maybe) 20 Levi Jones 21 Tracy Hines 24 Terry McCarl (right?) 30 Chad Boat 67 Darren Hagen 67K Cole Whitt 67x Henry Clarke 69 Jerry Coons, Jr. 71 Damion Gardner 81 Robert Ballou 93 Dustin Morgan 99 Brady Bacon
Undecided/Unknown: 6 Bill Rose 10E Shane Cottle 10F Blake Fitzpatrick 12T Trey Robb 21S Swanson? 21x Casey Shuman 36 Brady Short 37 Josh Wise 38 Jeff Bland, Jr. 85 Jerry Bell Kevin Swindell Jon Stanbrough? Trucker's 10? Trucker's 12?
Will there be any support from outside of USAC, be it traveling or local winged racers?

I think I heard that Herrera was going to run this show... and should probably do pretty good given the nonwing experience he's had the past couple years. It would be cool to see Jac take the wing off the R19, but that might be a pipe dream. If the drivers from Spridge's said list show up and the track is tacky, we'll all be talking about this show for quite a while.

I think I saw that McCarl was running Osky (perhaps because he is promoting it), but I'm not sure about Knoxville. Paging Bill W...

Since I started going for the whole week the night I looked most forward to was Tuesday at Osky. I hope the event goes well and can grow from this. I am sure the crowd will be sparse because it's not 410 winged sprints, but I hope I am wrong because they do put on a great show. We can only hope that people will come out and give it a chance.

I`m there. This will be an awesome show. If people don`t support this show, well, that will be their loss.

this show won't be drawn out - they are the only class running.
In fact, if they don't have more than 25 cars - there's gonna be a lot of bullshit down time. A LOT.
I would be cool with upper 20's - as long as the track/race was REALLY good.....And if it less than 25 that track better be f*cking epic and legendary!
That aside - I'm lookin forward to it.
And a little btw - before every ToC it seemed like a disappointment - knowing you were only gonna have a third of what you saw the night before.......but somehow - it always ended up being a fantastic show. Some of the best racing and performances I have seen the last few years were on sunday - and I admit that to be very ironic. It might have been because they start 30 cars in the feature - and it only took about 2 laps for the lead pack to catch up with the really slow cars who should have never been in the race........but it made for some great action/excitement. It was like an obstacle course for the leaders - in fact - I think those really slow ones cost a couple guys wins over the past few years. But like I said - made for great excitement for the fans - but I bet the drivers really hated it....and rightfully so.

Let me join the bandwagon here, I can't wait for this race either. We used to fly in on Monday and try to time the feature for the Monday night show at Osky, and catch the full show Tuesday at Osky plus obviously the rest of the week. Now we are flying in on Sunday just because of this race. I am surprised no other support divisions like 360s. Fine with me, give the boys a good track and let 'em have at it.
Also, my 13 yr old son is making his first trip out, he is pumped. Before we leave Mr Mac and I are going to make him take the oath with his right hand raised while his left hand rests on a Speed Sport News "I do hereby solemnly swear that what happens in Knoxville, Oskaloosa and West Des Moines stays there"
