Tyler Walker Finishes 4th at Antioch after Rough Beginning

By Gary Costa

Antioch, CA (July 18, 2009) – Antioch Speedway would be on tap for the SC Motorsports team. The team entered the race as the leader as the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car point's standings, but came out holding onto second after the race was completed. The team was coming off of a dominating performance the prior week at Santa Maria Speedway, where Tyler Walker drilled the competition in the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24.

The Shark power was evident in Antioch qualifying, as Walker blasted around the speedway clocking in with a 12.310 which would be fast enough to qualify him in the second spot. The night was going relatively well until Walker was involved in a heat race shunt as the green flag flew. The car drilled the front straightaway fence hard, and Walker would finish last in the event.

The SC Motorsports team quickly went to work fixing the broken parts on the racecar, and preparing it for the 30 lap main event. With Walker not transferring through his heat race, he would not be eligible for the dash that setup the first eight starting positions on the grid which would put Walker in the ninth starting position.

When the green flag flew to start the 30 lap main event, Walker would drop back to around 14th but gathered the racecar up nicely, and then began his charge forward. Walker was working his way forward all the while knowing that he wasn't awarded any heat race points due to the crash. Walker had his elbows up, and he was coming in the Lee Lindgren tuned JEI. 30 hard fought laps later, Walker flashed under the checkered flag in the fourth position.

"I can't thank my guys enough. The car was a little free in the main event, but the team never gave up. This point's deal keeps going back and forth, but I really hope that the fans are enjoying it," Walker said. "We have two shows at Chico this weekend so we'll just load it up, and get after it over there. It's getting down to it, so we have to string together strong finishes in the rest of the races."

You can catch Tyler Walker this Friday and Saturday night with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The last time that The SC Motorsports team visited Chico, they timed in second, scored a second place finish in their heat race, and finished second in the feature event for a very successful Fourth of July night. Only five races remain to crown the 2009 King of California Champion.
