Jimmy Pettit runs third in feature to maintain Silver Dollar Speedway/Hunt Magnetos wingless point lead going into special Saturday show this coming weekend

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 19, 2009…Competing on Skyway Tool Center Night for the wingless sprint car division this past Friday Chico, CA's Jimmy Pettit brought home a third place finish in the main event during the 14th point race of the Feather Falls Casino championship season at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

For the night of racing Skyway Tool Center added in extra money to the wingless main event and also gave out a number of items during the second annual Dash for Tools. "I would like to thank Doug & Sherry Gillis of Skyway Tool Center along with the reps from S-K Hand Tools and Makita Power Tools for a great night of racing," said Pettit. "It made it a lot of fun for there to be some extra goodies up for grabs to the wingless drivers and I know everyone appreciated it. In all they awarded $1000 worth of tools and money for the wingless division with the Dash for Tools and added main event money."

Pettit opened the night by charging from the second row to the lead in the opening heat race and proceeded to dominate the eight lap contest for victory aboard the Skyway Tool Center, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Pep Boys No. 24p. "The Love-shack" then drew the number five pill for the special Dash for Tools and had his elbows-up right from the waving of the green flag. Pettit was charging forward when he got over the edge of turns three and four to drop back to fifth, but he would rebound and make up one spot just before the finish to score fourth at the checkered.

Pettit would then line-up third for the 20 lap wingless main event, but quickly move his way into second and put pressure on leader Terry Shank Jr. By the midway point he was running a solid race in second until a slight bobble allowed Grass Valley's Billy Wallace the chance to sneak by for second, relegating the Pro Machine Racing Engines, Esplanade Taco Bell, Ing. Excavation sprinter back to the third position where he would eventually go on to finish. "We would have liked to get a win tonight, but Terry and Billy are as good as they come up here in the wingless cars so we'll take a third," Pettit said. "It was a good point's night and we'll just keep plugging away and seeing if we can get back into victory lane next week."

Pettit was also appreciative of the staff at Silver Dollar Speedway for their help and support. "I would like to give big thanks to Handy Racing Promotions and Troy Hennig for their tremendous support during this night because they're always really great to work with," he commented. "I'd also like to thank Bill & Jeanne Bell of Care Free Pools for adding $100 to the Dash for Tools and it was really cool to be able to collect money in the grandstands for the Butte Humane Society with over $700 being collected."

Next up for Jimmy Pettit and the "Love-shack" Motorsports No. 24p machine will be a special Saturday night show at the Silver Dollar Speedway this coming weekend, which will also be part of the 26th annual Tribute to Gary Patterson. The wingless sprints will share the bill with the traveling Golden State Challenge King of California 410 Sprints during the night and Pettit will go into it holding a 20 point lead over Jay Youngman in the Hunt Magnetos wingless standings.
