After top five with GSC in Santa Maria Bud Kaeding ready for busy couple of weeks
By Gary Thomas
Santa Maria, CA – July 14, 2009…Following another top five finish in Golden State Challenge Series competition this past weekend, Campbell, CA's Bud Kaeding will get ready for an action packed next couple of weeks beginning this Wednesday evening with a USAC National Sprint Car event in Terre Haute, Indiana.
This most recent weekend saw Kaeding in competition at the Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday as the Golden State Challenge King of California Sprint Car Series made its first appearance at the track since 2005. Going into the night the 29 year-old had momentum on his side after winning his first GSC main event in over a year the previous Saturday in Chico.
The Santa Maria Speedway 1/3 mile clay oval started off very greasy to begin the night and Kaeding timed-in ninth fastest in qualifying, before running fifth in his heat race at the helm of the BK Motorsports, Angello's ATV Rental, Alviso Rock No. 29. Starting in the fifth row during the main event the Campbell veteran battled a very fast race track, but was able to move into sixth early on and then take advantage of a Danny Faria Jr. bicycle to claim fifth on lap 10.
The remaining laps saw Kaeding put preassure on fourth running Brandon Carey, while at the same time having to fend off father Brent Kaeding and defending King of California Jonathan Allard. With the heavy track it made passing difficult and he would drive on to cross under the checkered in fifth after 30 laps of racing. "The track was pretty tough tonight, but it was great to be back in Santa Maria and hopefully we can keep coming back," Kaeding said. "We have to thank Chris Kearns for all the work he did to make this event happen and it was great to see so many fans in the stands."
This week finds Kaeding heading back to Indiana to compete in a trio of races with the USAC National Sprint Car Series in its annual Indiana Sprint Week, which kicked off this past week with three events already having been run. The BK Motorsports No. 29 wingless 410 sprinter will be in action at the Terre Haute Action Track on Wednesday night, the Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, IN on Thursday evening and the Bloomington Speedway on Friday.
Next week will see Kaeding resume his quest of the 2009 USAC K&N Silver Crown Series title during the J.D. Byrider 100 at the O'Reilly Raceway Park on Thursday July 23. The two-time series champion will bring a 21 point lead over Tony Stewart Racing's Tracy Hines into the historic Indianapolis paved oval. Kaeding is attempting to join fellow Californian Jimmy Sills as the only drivers to have captured the USAC Silver Crown title on three occasions.
Following the event at ORP Kaeding will then fly back to California in time to compete in a Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series double-header at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday and Saturday July 24 and 25. The previous visit to the Silver Dollar bullring on July 4 netted the BK Motorsports team a victory and Kaeding will look to duplicate that performance next week.
