Tyler Walker Crushes Field En Route to 6th GSC Victory
By Gary Costa
Santa Maria, CA (July 11, 2009) – Tyler Walker displayed wicked speed and total domination at Santa Maria Speedway last Saturday night in the inaugural running of the Doug Fort Memorial. Fresh off of a second place finish the prior week at Chico, the SC Motorsports Team put it all together for their series leading sixth win of the year.
Crew chief Lee Lindgren had the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 dialed in right from the time that the pristine mount rolled out of the SC Motorsports hauler. As the night would wear on, Lee would size-up the racing surface and the team would go to work making the right changes to the car throughout the night. The changes to the car made the JEI faster and faster, unleashing the Shark Racing Engine's power into the tacky surface.
"We were fast all night. We accomplished what we came here to do. It feels great to come here and win like we did," Lindgren said. "Tyler was able to put the car wherever he wanted it to go. We've been competitive with both the 410 and 360, and I think that is a true testament to this team."
Earlier in the evening, Walker would go onto win his heat race, and then finish second in the 6 lap dash. The second place finish would put Walker on the outside of the front row. When the green flag flew, Walker got the jump on fellow front row starter Evan Suggs, and took off and hid from the rest of the field, leading all 30 laps en route to his sixth feature event win of the season.
"I'm so proud of my team! I've got to thank all of our sponsors for making this possible. We've had some tough nights, but even those nights we've been fast," a jubilant Walker said. "I owe a lot to my team and car owner Scott Chastain for this opportunity. Promoter Chris Kearns did a fantastic job. I know everything didn't go as planned, but I commend him for all of his hard work."
You can catch Tyler Walker this Saturday night with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series at Antioch Speedway for Round No. 19. The SC Motorsports Team scored their first win of the season April 4 at the speedway.
