Motorsports starts the race weekend out with a bang this past Friday at
their home track of River Cities Speedway. Finishing 3rd in the heat
race lined up the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 on the outside of the
4th row for the main event. At about 16 laps to go, “Dynamite” Dobmeier
took the lead and came out on top grabbing his 5th win of the year at
River Cities.
Following the win, it was off once
again to Knoxville Raceway for their double feature night. Dobmeier
qualified 4th quick with a time of 15.419 just .256 seconds behind the
lap set by Terry McCarl.
Mark started on the
inside of the 3rd row to begin the adventures of the heat race. Going
into the first corner as Mark was running the high line, McCarl was
attempting the pass on the bottom, but the two of them got together
knocking the rear end out of square on the Lunstra/Dobmeier sprinter.
Dobmeier then struggled through the remainder of the heat for the
attempt of a decent finish, but fell back to 9th at the time of
checkered resulting in a start for the B-Main.
With
the Senske & Son Delta Oil sprinter fixed and ready for action,
Dobmeier started on the outside pole in the “B”. Terry McCarl and Mark
Dobmeier made a very exciting race to the end as the Dobmeier finished
right behind the #24 in the second spot to transfer into the main
event.
“McCarl got a good run at the beginning
of the race,” explains Mark, “But towards the end of the race I was
right behind him and just ran out of laps to overtake him. The Senske
& Son Delta Oil machine was right on the money.”
At
17th, Dobmeier took the green flag to start the main event and while
moving forward, a 4-car pileup going into turn one of the second lap
gathered Mark and destroyed the frame ending the chances to a finish in
the main. “I just had nowhere to go,” says Mark, “I went into the
corner and realized that I was just in a bad spot I couldn’t get out
of. So I held on and rode it out. The car was pretty damaged, the frame
was bent but we were able to make the car good enough to start the
second main event of the double feature night to collect the starting
points in our chase in the championship.”
The
next night was to be Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD, but with an early
morning downpour, the speedway canceled the event at 2PM.
Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports made the decision to attempt the World of
Outlaw event at Cedar Lake Speedway. Knowing they were going to be late
put the pressure on, but unfortunate road construction in downtown
Minneapolis delayed the team to make the event.
