FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Mark Burch Motorsports – Lincoln NE 07/13/2009

Broken Generator Pull Rope Hampers Racing Weekend.

It was a struggle of epic proportions for Chad Humston and the Mark Burch Motorsports team this past weekend while competing in the 360 class at the Knoxville Raceway.

“Our night started out tough from the get-go” stated Chief Mechanic Marvin Brees.“We’ve had our share of problems this season, but this one really took the cake!”

Thanks to the helpful hand of fellow racers, especially the 17G team of Dusty Zomer and Ed Gifford, head engineer Dan Humston was able to procure a 10mm socket.“We would have been totally lost without that socket from the Gifford team.It really shows how great the competitors are at Knoxville, always willing to lend a hand” said the elder Humston.

Once the 10mm socket was put into action, several bolts needed to be removed in order to remove the pull-start mechanism to assess the damage.Head engineer Humston assessed the damage.“Our worst fear came true….the rope broke!”It was at this time that a crucial decision needed to be made:Could the existing rope be shortened or would we need a donor?

Using all of his resources and years of experience, Dan Humston made the call.“It wasn’t easy, but there was just enough rope left so that we could tie a new knot in it and get that generator back up and running. From there on, I closely monitored the situation to make sure that the fuel level was adequate.Restarting the thing may not have been an option.I was afraid that we were at the end of our rope.” Humston added.

Once power was restored the team proceeded to reel off their 5th heat race win of the season and a 8th place finish in the A feature.

You know better than that Ethel, it's ALWAYS the owner's fault.

I heard Schatz uses weed wacker line instead of rope...it's much lighter, but way more expensive..

Bill W has his hands full as it is. Why take on a client who only allows for enough rope to hang themselves?
