...I know little to nothing about sprint car racing down under...with all the talk about Garry Brazier racing here this summer it got my curiosity up...could anyone fill me in on any of the main info on the racing there...
whats the best tracks, drivers, series, etc. ?...is there one big national race like the Knoxville Nationals ?...anything similar to the Kings Royal ?...anything like the Steve and Sammy rivalry ?...etc.
Thanks

Best tracks are Parramatta City Raceway (PCR) in NSW, Warrnambool in Victoria and Kwinana (spelling) in WA. Top 3 local drivers are Brazier, Max Dumsney and Robbie Farr (they've all been to the states over the years) Tatnell and Madsen are based in the states and are not considered local anymore. Best series is World Series Sprintcars. The biggest race is the Warrnambool Classic and maybe the $50K to win race at PCR in recent years? There is also a national title race that's only open to Australian drivers....which means it's not quite the same level as a knoxville nationals in terms of an international event. The Steve/Sammy deal of Australia is Tatnell/Brazier.

Starting with your last question the rivalry between Brazier and Brooke Tatnell would be the closest to Steve and Sammy however it mainly comes from Gary. The main sprintcar track in the country is Parramatta City Raceway in Sydney which runs the strongest weekly show by a long way regularly having 40-50 cars as well as a big influx of America's best each season including Steve,Sammy and Schats.Other quality tracks are in Perth and Warrnambool however the "bool" only runs a half dozen sprintcar shows a season.Brisbane is the busiest sprintcar track however the joint is ordinary. The most important individual event is the Australian Championship which is held on a rotating deal going to a different State each year followed by events such as the Classic (Warrnambool) and the $50,ooo to win at Parramatta.Brazier is the present Australian Champ (6 time winner)while Brooke won 3 straight prior to Braz getting it back.Former Champion Gary Rush (now retired) holds the most Titles with 10.While not as big as the States Australia has a very healthy Speedway scene with about half a dozen drivers racing in various parts of America during your current season.Cheers.

Senna I wouldn't tell Brooke or Kerry we don't consider them locals. Both are very proud representatives of Australia who need to race in America to be professinal sprintcar drivers.

Best Track in Australia by far at the moment is the Perth Motorplex in Kwinana Beach WA. Parramatta has the highest car count in Australia but not many drivers are taking the step to the next level.
Top 3 Local sprintcar driver in australia at this time is
1.Brooke Tatnell Current and 8 time Wanless World Series Sprintcar Title Holder.
2 Max Dumsney - 7 Times Wanless World Series Champion
3. Robbie Farr.
Our Biggest Meeting of the year would be the Australia Sprintcar Championship. Currently Garry Brazier holds the title and seems will hold it again next year (Attending Permitting) because of date clashes with Aussie Drivers in America. That is our Knoxville Nationals
We also have the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic which is the Kings Royal in Australian Speedway.
We currently have 1 major Tour. World Series Sprintcar. 16 Rounds across Australia with some exicting racing. Hopefully it will be alot better this year.
3 major Speedweek type programs
1. Easter Trail - 3 meeting in 3 nights covering just over 1500km without turning a lap Avalon Speedway, Mt Gambier Speedway and Premier Speedway.
2. World Series Sprintcars Speedweek - 7 nights of racing in 9 days 26th Dec - 3rd Jan. $10,000 to win each night with an overall winner of the series taking away a Proton road car.
3. International Season - Parramatta Speedway - 7 or 8 of the american added to the mix of Sydney Locals with Donny Schatz dominating most of it since it started.

Typical for garbage like this to come from a Tatnell fan. The 2 x defending champion that flogger Brooke @ Kwinana a track that Brooke supposedly owns doesn't make the top 3 drivers in Australia............ go figure.
And Braz will win the title "because of date clashes with Aussie Drivers in America". What a load of crap. First things first Brooke doesn't have a drive in the US for 09-10 season so who knows where he will be. Second thing is Team Brazier plan to run the full WOO schedule in 09-10 as well so there goes your stupid theory.

They're Aussie's all the way Parra. Just wouldn't consider them locals anymore since they actually live here 10 months of the year.

Brooke Tatnell took time out of his busy schedule to visit with Stan Meissner of RACEMN.COM to discuss the recently announced sale of the Titan 21au racing team. Brooke shares his thoughts about internet message board posts, his unique sense of humor and his friendships with the people he mentions in his blog. Stan asks Brooke about racing locally during the 2008 season and his background in racing. Brooke talks about his plans for the remainder of the 2009 season including his annual trip back home to Australia and the Jerry Richert Memorial at the Cedar Lake Speedway on September 12.

I have enjoyed this thread very much. I have learned a lot of information from the Aussie posters on here. Quick question: How competitive is Matthew Reed back home? Does he have any wins? Where? For the past two years, we have gotten to see him race against the Posse for Pennsylvania Speedweek. I know he wrote a column last year about his Speedweek experiences that was pretty interesting.

Matty has won a ton of races with the SRA in Victoria and I think he's the current series champ isn't he? Could be wrong about that though?
