30 years ago today we lost two great drivers, Darryl Dawley and Roger
Larson in a horrible accident at Knoxville. Both drivers were racing
out of South Dakota at the time and Darryl had won the feature just the
week before.
In those days I used to shoot photos during hot laps and time trials
and went up to the stands to watch the races.
The best thing about race fans is that we never forget, even after 30 years we still remember Darryl and Roger.
RIP racers

Darryl Dawley was an idol of mine, when I was a kid growing up at Huset's Speedway. I had the good fortune of racing against him, at the Clay Co. Fair in Sept. of 1978,where things didn't go to well for me. It was my third race in a open wheel car, afternoon dryslick , not able to see anyting going down the straightaways, compounded by big ruts & old heim joints I ended my afternoon upside down along the turn 3&4 wall.
Thanks for the memories Darryl, & Roger , I will never forget
