Knoxville Raceway

23 410s

36 360s

23 305s

410s

Lynton Jeffrey (17th car out to time) set the standard in time trials at 14.932 seconds on a heavy, fast track. Dusty Zomer (16th car out) was second quick, followed by Kerry Madsen (5th), Brian Brown (6th), Don Droud Jr. (11th), Terry McCarl (19th), Bronson Maeschen (13th), Davey Heskin (21st), Rager Phillips (18th) and Josh Schneiderman (2nd). Austin McCarl had mechanical problems during his one lap of qualifying.

Heat one (started): 1. Mark Dobmeier 13 (2) 2. Maeschen 1 (4) 3. Josh Higday 7K (1) 4. Schneiderman 49 (3) 5. Brown 21 (5) 6. Jeffrey 12 (6) 7. Johnny Herrera 2w (7) 8. Austin McCarl 17A (8)

The first five finishers in the 8-lap heats made the invert for the feature.

Heat two (started): 1. Skip Jackson 2 (1) 2. Zomer 17G (6) 3. Seth Brahmer 13v (2) 4. Heskin 56 (4) 5. Calvin Landis 70 (3) 6. Droud Jr. 47 (5) 7. Bob Weuve 19 (7) 8. Casie Shilling 16c (8)

Heat three (started): 1. Wayne Johnson 14AJ (2) 2. Madsen 55 (6) 3. McCarl 24 (5) 4. Pete Crall 1PC (1) 5. Phillips 10 (4) 6. Billy Alley 22 (3) 7. Mike Moore 69 (7)

A main (started): 1. Brown (4) 2. Heskin (1) 3. T. McCarl (3) 4. Dobmeier (10) 5. Madsen (5) 6. Zomer (6) 7. W. Johnson (12) 8. Schneiderman (8) 9. Herrera (19) 10. Jackson (14) 11. Jeffrey (16) 12. Droud Jr. (17) 13. Landis (9) 14. Alley (18) 15. Higday (13) 16. Moore (21) 17. Crall (15) 18. A. McCarl (22) 19. Brahmer (11) 20. Weuve (20) 21. Phillips (7) 22. Maeschen (2) 23. C. Shilling (23)

Heskin jumped out to a sizable lead in the 20-lapper before a lap four caution for a spun C. Shilling, who would then tip it over in turn one on the restart. Heskin led Maeschen, Brown, Zomer and T. McCarl back to green flag racing. The racing was intense for third between Brown and Zomer before Brown took the advantage for good. Dobmeier won a battle for sixth with Madsen before Maeschen, who was running second came to a stop on lap 13 and retired. Phillips exited under caution as well. Heskin had built up a sizable lead with two lapped cars between himself and second with eight laps to go. Now Brown assumed second on his nerf bar, ahead of Zomer, T. McCarl and Dobmeier. Heskin was solid, but Brown patiently worked until getting by for the winning pass on lap 17. It was Brown's 16th career 410 win at Knoxville, and was worth $3000. Madsen made a last lap pass of Zomer to move into the top five, and Herrera was the hard-charger, movign forward ten spots.

360s

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. John Hall 7H (1*) 2. Gregg Bakker 11x (2*) 3. Jon Agan 54 (6*) 4. Dennis Moore Jr. 20 (9*) 5. Ryan Roberts 18 (7) 6. Rod Richards 12 (4) 7. Tyler Thompson 48 (3) 8. Josh Padellford 34 (8) 9. Brant O'Banion 47 (5)

CJ Houseman got upside down hard in turn two at the outset, but was uninjured. Beaver went up in smoke on the white flag lap while running second.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Dave Hall 51 (2*) 2. Travis Cram 71 (3*) 3. Randy Martin 14 (5*) 4. Brad Foster 00 (1) 5. Nate Mosher 22N (6) 6. Tasker Phillips 7TAZ (7) 7. Mike Houseman Jr. Y2 (8) 8. Jay Russell 76 (9) 9. Glen Hunt G74 (4)

B main (started): 1. Humston (6) 2. Roberts (1) 3. Foster (2) 4. Mosher (3) / 5. Padellford (13) 6. Steward (10) 7. Van Haaften (8) 8. Richards (7) 9. Heimbaugh (17) 10. Hunt (18) 11. Van Haaften was sent to the back for jumping the first start in the 10-lapper. On the second start, Zoutte and O'Banion took tumbles in one and two. Neither was injured. On the third try, Phillips slid into Corbin in turn one, sending both cars into a wicked set of flips. Corbin got air enough to knock down some billboards and send his fuel tank onto Highway 14. There was a delay so the fuel could be contained by local authorities. Houseman Jr. had nowhere to go and slammed into Phillips, leaving three cars upside down. No one was hurt. Once underway, the race went non-stop, with Roberts pacing the field most of the way. Humston found a higher line on the fast track and slung around the leader, who was caught in lapped traffic, on the last lap for the win.

A main one (started): 1. Cornell (2) 2. D. Hall (4) 3. Moro (1) 4. Lenz (3) 5. Martin (12) 6. Garner (14) 7. Moore Jr. (11) 8. Montgomery (7) 9. Selvage (15) 10. Bakker (10) 11. Mather (13) 12. Montgomery had a good start inside of J. Hall, and the two contacted down the front straight with J. Hall's left front clipping the right rear of Montgomery. J. Hall spun in front of the field and collected Agan. Both drivers flipped violently down the front straightaway. J. Hall was taken in complaining of back pain and a possible broken toe. Moro led the 15-lapper early, but Cornell was right on his bumper. On lap seven, he drove by the leader. On lap nine, Cram stopped, bringing out the only caution of the race. Cornell led Moro, D. Hall, Lenz and Montgomery back to green flag racing. Cornell was never headed, winning his second feature of the season and his career at Knoxville. It paid him $1000. Humston went up in smoke on the white flag lap. D. Hall worked by Moro late for second, while Garner earned hard-charger honors.

A main two (started): 1. Anderson (3) 2. Selvage (8) 3. Moore Jr. (10) 4. Roberts (4) 5. Cornell (16) 6. Dobesh (5) 7. Garner (11) 8. Bakker (7) 9. Mosher (2) 10. Montgomery (9) 11. Van Haaften (18) 12. D. Hall (15) 13. Lenz (13) 14. Heimbaugh (20) 15. Padellford (16) 16. Steward (19) 17. Mather (6) 18. Cram (17) 19. Martin (12) 20. Humston (1) DNS - Moro, Agan, J. Hall, Foster, Richards

Humston led the first three laps before he went up in smoke for a second time and retired. Anderson assumed the point ahead of Selvage, Mosher, Roberts and Mather. Three laps later, Martin was running tenth when he came to a stop and was done. Now Anderson led Selvage, Roberts, Mosher and Dobesh. On lap 10, Garner and Mather battled for sixth when Garner got over the inside berm in turn two and then slid up the track contacting Mather. Mather got upside down, but was uninjured. The restart saw Anderson ahead of Selvage, Roberts, Dobesh and a surging Moore Jr. Anderson rode out the last six laps on his way to his 8th career Knoxville win. Cornell came storming late to a top five finish and a hard-charger award.

305s

Heat one (started): 1. Tasker Phillips 7 (4) 2. Bobby Mincer 14s (2) 3. Johnny Anderson 66 (3) 4. Matthew Stelzer 99 (6) 5. Steve Palmer 2 (5) 6. Matt Stephenson 55 (7) 7. Andrew Turley 14 (1) DNS - Dustin Clark 16

Heat two (started): 1. Marty Stephenson 36 (2) 2. Mitchell Alexander 6 (1) 3. Mark Widmar 7w (4) 4. Nick Ross R99 (3) 5. Bob Hildreth 55KC (6) 6. Chris Coleman 10 (8) 7. Bob Anderson 21N (7) 8. Dave Anderson 53 (5)

D. Anderson got upside down before a lap could be completed, ending his night.

Heat three (started): 1. Rob Kubli 23K (6) 2. Bob Lamb 47 (4) 3. Wayne Redmond 610c (5) 4. Nick Guernsey 0 (3) 5. Matt Close 5 (1) 6. Earl Tice 2T (2) 7. Patrick Long 53L (7)

A main (started): 1. Phillips (6) 2. Alexander (2) 3. Mincer (3) 4. J. Anderson (7) 5. Kubli (4) 6. Redmond (9) 7. Widmar (8) 8. Stelzer (10) 9. Lamb (1) 10. Guernsey (12) 11. Matt Stephenson (16) 12. Clark (22) 13. Marty Stephenson (5) 14. Hildreth (14) 15. Ross (11) 16. Long (21) 17. Close (15) 18. Turley (19) 19. B. Anderson (20) 20. Tice (18) 21. Coleman (17) 22. Palmer (13) DNS - D. Anderson

Lamb led the 12-lapper early, but it was evident that Phillips, fresh off a scary crash in the 360s was unphased and headed toward the front. The 16 year old took the point on lap three and never looked back. Palmer tipped over on lap four, and Coleman did the same on lap 11. Both were unhurt. Mincer made a pass of Alexander before the lap 11 Coleman incident, but that was negated. It was Phillips first Knoxville win. Clark was the hard-charger, moving forward 10 spots.

I think mother nature took care of track prep......consider yourself nominated for the increasingly growing "Hosehead dipsh*t hall of fame"...I think you are a lock to get voted in.....

I know for a FACT the good folks at Iowa Speedway have offered the Dunkins their kerosene fired track driers for just this sort of wet track conditions.

The Fairboard does not want to pay for the kerosene and the extra diesel fuel to pull them around the track.

The casino at Tama has offered their resident rain dancers before during the week to help naturally water the track when it has been 90 degrees and sunny for 2 weeks and thus we have a dry dusty track.

Same deal .... too much cost (tepee rental and fire-water costs.)

Will it never end ???

2 of the biggest issues facing ANY dirt track, BUT easily conquered .....and a fairboard that JUST won't spend the money.

Some people just don't get it. You get an inch of rain in the morning and then bitch about the track?????? I was just happy they even got where they could run, the Dunkins need to be in the hall of fame because of the great track the provide week after week. The people bitching need to go to some other tracks if they think Knoxville is bad. Good job was done by all yesterday to make the surface race ready. Thanks for all you guys do.

I thought the track was awesome. I wish it was that way every week. I just wish they would do more teching. They need to stop saying they are going to do it and then not. The rules are there for a reason.

Besides the rain, my guess is the Dunkins don't get alot of say in how it is prepped anyway. Like any employee they are probably told a general idea of what is wanted.

*not that they don't do a good job. Been doing pretty well for many decades.
