the track had extinguishers on hand and used them all. they now have a safety crew at the track and also new purple k and cold fire extinguishers as well as jaws of life trained firefighters/emts and also have atleast two that have racing safety expeience. we will be adding equiptment asap if anyone is interested in helping us out. this is a nonprofit track and doesnt have much money on hand to work with. i am trying to find money for more training of track personal drivers and equiptment. me and the rest of my safety crew are volenteering our time so this never happens again. anyone interested in helping can email me at [email protected]

I've owned and driven many different cars through the years, and have seen some horrible fires. I watched Bettenhausen jump into the pond in the Cal Expo infield to put himself out.. Drivers and owners need to be on top of what safety is present, both in the facilities and the cars themselves. Car mounted onboard fire systems were in every car I built and drove. Thankfully, I never needed them, but they were there nonetheless. They don't weigh that much, arent cost prohibitive. and dont take up that much space. Think about it. Best wishes for this driver's recovery-

Hey Kenny. Did that happen at Sacramento in a champ car? I remember seeing something like that also. Jimmy Sills won the race.

Offy65, I was in the stands for that race too. I knew right away that he was on fire and why he was getting to the water. That was my first time seeing an open wheel race.

Sorry but I didn't see this post.

It was Thunder in a Sprinter, and on pavement..Indianapolis raceway park.
