Looks like Wolfgang in Howells #4 on the very outside of the second row(yellow wing) Is that correct?

I see the Jensen Construction #55 hidden behind Ferkel's car. If you look real close between Ferkel's wing and the nose wing that has the Valvoline decal, you can see the nose of Sammy's 1N Nance house car.
Check out the wings, too! Back when it was still evolving technology and appears to be before the 25 sq. ft. rule.
Signature here.

Check out the lack of wing angle also, they weren't getting all the downforce out of the wings back then.

There were 2 Jensen Construction cars there that afternoon...Tim Green in the 55 and Mike Brooks in the 55j.
In the second row on the inside is Danny Smith in the Gambler 18, on the outside with a red 15 on the nose wing is Lee James in the 15, back a few rows in Ricky Hood in the blue 50.

Something tells me that with the size of those wings that downforce wasn't an issue.
Looks like a heavy track for a feature too.

This wasn't a very safe track for a number of years... lucky that nobody got killed there! Long, high-speed straights... tight, narrow turns... crappy lighting... single guardrail fencing.
Looks like a much better track since the Gundakers have taken over and reconfigured it... that and the new L'burg are on my list of tracks to re-visit.

Cool Shot Pete!
I see Lee OZborn on the outside, row 1. I seen Lee at Knoxville, IA,,a couple weeks ago at the Hall of Fame Induction. Lee looks pretty much the same as when he was racing. A little gray hair now. Looks in good shape. Residing in his native NY state now.
Take Care,

I've never met Lee Osborne but my parents visited with him at his shop in New York a few years ago. Lee is married to old modified sportsmans great Dutch Hoags' daughter. My parents first met Dutch back in 60's and has been a friend of his since. They drove up to NY to visit Dutch a couple of years ago. Lee builds hot rods in shop now.
Went to quite a few races at the old 1/2 mile in Granite City. Yeah Rustin is was pretty narrow esp. for the wingless guys. Cory Kruseman I think didn't care much for it at all.

The thing I notice about this picture is that just from the wing standpoint of things people were trying different things (sizes, sideboards, width, etc). Innovation and creativity. That's what drew me to this sport in the first place and would like to see a little more of it thrown back in and throw a little more pages of the rule books out. Then again, I am probably one of the minorities on this idea.
Awesome picture!

One thing to keep in mind in regards to wing angle less 'back in the day'. There were still quite a few drivers that actually operated out of their own pocketbook at that timeIE: Rick Ferkel, Lee Osborn, etc, hence not trying to mash the car into the ground with the wing, and make the engine live for a while at least,in order to be more conservative. If there were more like this today, winged sprint car racing may see more of the innovation of 'back in the day'?So many show up at the track with helmet bag, drivers, today, that cost of operating the car is no concern to them. Who knows... BTW: I think that may be Kenny Schrader in the Rose Brothers #36,not sure?
Take Care

Its pretty crazy now days walking around the local dirt tracks here in Sioux Falls and walking past Doug and getting a "hi" here and a wave there knowing he is one of the greastest driver of alltime and I didnt even get to witness much of it being only 24.
