Tyler Walker Charges to Opening Night Dirt Cup Win

By Gary Costa

ALGER, WA (June 18, 2009) – Tyler Walker won night number one of the 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in the SC Motorsports No. 24 at Skagit Speedway in exciting fashion in the Scott Chastain owned mount.

Walker timed in 13th quick out of the 41 cars that took time with an 11.742 qualifying lap. Walker then went onto pound the Skagit Speedway surface by winning heat three in convincing fashion in the NMI Industrial Contractors JEI.

When the green flew for the 30-lap feature event, Walker began his charge to the front of the pack from his ninth starting spot. Walker eventually moved into second, with his sights set on race leader Jason Solwold. On a Lap-23 restart, Walker made his move and proceeded to pass Solwold for the lead and the opening night race win.

"This is awesome! We got a little behind in qualifying, but the guys didn't give up and worked real hard to get the car dialed in for the rest of the night," a jubilant Walker said. "Scott Chastain gives us what we need to win, and the crew knows how to make the car work and keep me comfortable when I'm in the car. I want to thank all of my fans. I have the best group of fans that a guy can ask for, and I hope that we can continue running like this so hopefully we can celebrate with them on Skagit Speedway's front straightaway Saturday night!"

The opening night win makes Walker the early point's leader for the 38th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup thus far. Tonight is a complete show, with points from both nights being combined to determine the main event line-up on Saturday.
