I'm on a mission to help out the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. I've been talking with Bob Baker the last week or so and this race came up. Since the theatre is completed now in the second floor, completing a nice library of racing videos is something I feel is important. Myself, Bob, & Tom Schmeh have all come up empty with trying to obtain this video. The race was on May 1, 1976 at Terre Haute. It was the highest purse that year of any race in the country and was filmed by ABC Sports and shown on Wide World of Sports. We know this video exists in their archives at ABC Sports but getting cooperation to obtain this video has been unsuccessful. This was the first network taping of sprint cars and the race itself has been written about as a classic duel between Opperman and Pancho Carter. I would consider this video the Holy Grail of sprint car videos. This event is significant in sprint car history. If anyone out there has a connection within ABC to help get this video into the hands of the NSCHoF&M so it can be preserved and shown to the public please let me know. [email protected] Thanks!
