Here is a shot I took of Doug Wolfgang in the Howell's 4 back in 1981

This is one of hundreds of sprint car photos I took back in the early 80s.

Some of you know, most don't, but the famous # 4, owned by Doug Howells is still making laps in the upper midwest. The driver is Lee Grosz (from Minnesota I believe). I saw the car a couple weeks ago racing at Grand Forks,ND, had never seen it there before, and because it carried the same colors when Hall of Famer Don Mack drove it to hundreds of wins, I asked about the car and was told that this Doug Howells is the son or nephew or ??? of Doug Howells Sr. Anyway, anyone know for sure if it is the same Doug Howells or a younger relative?

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

The current car owner is Doug Howells. The same Doug Howells that owned the cars that Doug Wolfgang and others drove years ago. The current driver is Lee Grosz, Jr. who is Doug's grandson. Lee is our (2) time defending ASCS Northern Plains Champion and you'll find these guys racing just about anywhere in the country. Lee is from Harwood, ND and I believe Doug still lives in Hunter, ND.

We are extremely proud to have the number #4 team competing regularly with us at our ASCS regional and National events...CZ

That makes my old bones feel pretty good, knowing Doug Howells is still involved in sprint car racing. He has done a lot for this sport we love. Thanks for the reply. PS - Lee Grosz is filling many famous shoes.

You are correct z-man, I visited with Doug last year at a couple of races and it seems as though he is having a good time putting a car on the track for his grandson to race. This is one lucky young man to have a grandpa like Doug Howell. Lee has became a very competative racer and fun to watch.
