Bud Kaeding heads for "Pacific Northwest Swing" in lead up to 38th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway June 18-20

By Gary Thomas

Campbell, CA – June 8, 2009…After running on the East Coast this past week Campbell, CA's Bud Kaeding will return home this weekend and get ready for another busy swing, which kicks off this Saturday night with the Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series invading the Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford.

This most recent week of competition saw the two-time Silver Crown Series champion in action with the USAC National Sprint Car Series in its "East Coast Swing," where he opened it up by running 17th in the feature before scoring a pair of 11th place finishes to conclude the festivities.

With the East Coast behind him Kaeding now heads home and prepares for one of the biggest weeks of the West Coast year as the prestigious 38th annual Dirt Cup is fast approaching. Prior to that however, the Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series will head for a pair of point paying races in Oregon, beginning this Saturday night with an event at the Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford.

Kaeding will go into Saturday evening sitting eighth in the GSC standings and is coming into it with momentum having claimed four straight top-five finishes with the series, including a season best runner-up at the Ocean Speedway two Friday's ago. "We seem to have gotten this car figured out recently," said the driver of the BK Motorsports, K&N Filters, Alviso Rock, Gordon Smith No. 29. "We're still gaining on things, but I've definitely felt more comfortable in the car during the past handful of races."

Following Saturday's show in Medford, Kaeding and the rest of the teams will continue heading north for a Monday night event at the Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Oregon. It will mark the first ever appearance for the Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series at the always exciting quarter-mile bullring and the Campbell veteran is looking forward to it. "It's nice to get a pair of races in this year on the way to Dirt Cup and it should be a good tune-up for Skagit," he commented. "We’re really looking forward to running Cottage Grove because it seems to be a fast little track and that should be fun."

After the two events in Oregon most teams will then keep north on I-5 and head for the Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington for the 38th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by Van's Equipment. The three-night event will once again be handing out a solid $25,000 to the winner of Saturday's feature and the overall purse is a whopping $150,000 making it one of the highest paying sprint car events in the country.

Kaeding last year had nothing but bad luck at the Dirt Cup and got upside down in two of the three nights after incidents happened directly in front of him, which left him with nowhere to go. "Last year the Dirt Cup was pretty tough, but we're looking forward to rebounding this season and getting this car up front," he said. "We have a bunch of friends up in Oregon and Washington and definitely want to get a good run for them so we'll be giving it our best shot."

This years Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup is expected to be as big as ever with a number of top notch entrants taking to the always exciting 3/10 mile high-banked clay oval. "The Dirt Cup is a race where getting off to a good start is a key, but even if it starts out rough you just have to keep plugging away and trying to get as many points as possible," Kaeding commented. "It's always one of the biggest races out here and with all these strong cars expected it should be fun.”

The 29 year-old driver will take to the track on Thursday June 18 looking for a strong opening night to pick up as many points as possible at the helm of the Swift Metal Finishing, High Five Pizza, YAK Graphics, Kaeding Performance Maxim. Another prelim night will then follow on Friday, before Saturday’s finale that will award $25,000 to the winner of the 40 lap main event. Don't forget to stop by the BK Motorsports trailer to check out our t-shirts and other wide variety of merchandise that will be on sale.
