Adam Kaeding Brings the No. 3 Back To Life Again At Ocean Speedway

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, CA - (June 5, 2009) – Last Friday at Ocean Speedway became a nostalgic night for those in attendance. The WG Motorsports (Wes Gutierrez Motorsports) Non-Winged Sprint Cars' normal No. 007 was replaced for Howard Kaeding's well-known No. 3 by grandson Adam Kaeding who would compete in the event.

The legendary Howard Kaeding remains a hero to many fans and that fact couldn't be more evident as the pits were buzzing as everyone who seemed to walk by the mount. Drivers and fans alike would stop, gave a quick glance and thumbs up to the Campbell pilot and the WG Motorsports Team.

The "Campbell Mafia" member would go onto finish a quiet fifth in his heat race, but was able to make the car "awaken" for the entertaining 20-lap feature event. The 21-year-old Kaeding was pounding the cushion and then began looking for something to happen on the bottom of the racetrack in the No. 3 Maxim. The brakes went away on lap-11 while intense pressure was being applied from Mark Chaves, Jr. - Kaeding had his hands full, but was able to hold onto second place.

"I had so much fun out there tonight. I hate finishing second, but I'll take it," the third generation driver said. "My Grandfather was happy to see the number three on the car tonight. He's done so much in this sport; I just hope that I made him proud."

Proud he was. As Adam pulled the car into his pit, it was evident that he was disappointed with his second place finish as he began to climb out of the racecar. Proud Grandfather Howard's smile beamed throughout the Ocean Speedway facility reassuring his grandson by saying, "you did fine, you did fine".
