Brett Miller geared up for Golden State Challenge Series season
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA - March 4, 2007... "The Catfish" Brett Miller will be taking the next step in his sprint car driving career this season as he competes full time with the Golden State Challenge King of California 410 winged sprint car series. The 17 year old Chico gasser will also be running regularly at the Silver Dollar Speedway in the Friday night track championship point series. Last season Brett received co-rookie of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway and was also named rookie of the year with the California Civil War 360 winged sprint car series.
For 2007 his focus shifts to the top 410 winged sprint car circuit on the West Coast. "I’m extremely excited to move onto the Golden State Series this year, I love the power the 410 puts out," Brett said. The Golden State Challenge Series will visit 10 tracks this season in multiple regions of California and Oregon with each of them having various characteristics. The challenge of learning the new tracks is something Brett is looking forward to. "I’m very excited to learn all the new track surfaces and hopefully I’ll be able to adapt well to them with the help from all the Golden State veterans. I have a lot of respect for them and I know I need to earn there’s, which will be another fun challenge," he said. The veterans Brett speaks of include 12 time GSC champ Brent Kaeding and defending champ Jonathan Allard, as well former champs Ronnie Day and Jason Statler, all of whom are expected to run 90-100% of the GSC schedule.
After gaining more experience and tips from fellow competitors last year, Brett put it all to together and won his first race at Silver Dollar Speedway on August 4, which was just two weeks after his 17th birthday. "I came into last season thinking I knew everything when I knew nothing, but the second I started relaxing and spending more time watching the other drivers and getting advice from BK, Stephen Allard and Jonathan Allard, I started to get fast," Brett commented.
Brett’s goals for the upcoming season are to earn rookie of the year with the Golden State Challenge Series, finish in the top 10 or higher in points with GSC, and to finish within the top five of the Silver Dollar Speedway point standings. "I race to win but I don’t want to win races by taking people out and causing problems," he said. "I like to make friends with the other drivers and make as many connections as I can. I believe (and hope) that is the secret to going far in racing."
Brett and the Care Free Pools Racing team will kick off its rookie campaign with the Golden State Challenge Series at this weekend’s season opening Mini Gold Cup in Chico. The Mini Gold Cup is a two day event and has been going on at Silver Dollar Speedway since 1987. It started out as a World of Outlaw event, but has been the season opener for the Golden State Challenge Series since 2000. Saturday night’s winner will pocket $6,000 and Brett is really looking forward to the event. "Winning the season opener or even getting a top five at the Mini Gold Cup would be amazing. It wouldn't only be a great way to start the season points wise, but it would be a huge confidence booster," Brett said.
Returning sponsors for the team include: Care-Free Pools, Care-Free Custom Graphics, Platinum Powder Coating, JP's Paint & Auto Body, Wolfe Electric, Country Crafter's Cabinet Shop, and A1A Performance Muffler. New sponsors for the ‘07 season that we’re pleased to introduce include: Jandy Pool Products, Al's Concrete, River City Pool Plastering, and Aspire Homes.
