Thought I'd share these here. Looks more like a race track than it has since it was carved out!!! Unfortunately, just to plant crops. I spoke with the gentleman farming it, who was a very nice guy...but also does not want anyone walking across his beans understandably. Glad to finally get a glimpse of it....it is a MONSTER!

From the road....how was this so hard to find for so many years????

Above: Walking up the hill on the back side of the turns.

Below: Standing in one, looking back at the front stretch....

Below: Standing in one, looking towards two....

Below: Standing in infield, looking towards front stretch....

Below: Standing in infield looking towards three and four. The light colored band of soil right below the tree line is the track. Did I mention this is a MONSTER???

Below: Standing in the infield looking towards turn one. There's still an amazing amount of banking there for eroding for nearly 40 years!!!

Below: Another view from the road as saying goodbye. Hope to see it again in the future.

(I know you've probably seen these from the PitGate thread, but I find it amazing how much difference between your photos and mine from a month ago! Farmer has been busy!)

My trip and photos from the WoO weekend.

Yep, I saw em! That's what inspired me to go look for it yesterday. I had to stop in st.henry for work, and had some time to kill. It's amazing to see in person, it is freaking huge. The farmer was very nice, but again didn't seem all that thrilled about walking across his new field. I think this is the first time the ground has been farmed, or soil turned over at all since the track was carved out. He seemed pretty proud to be able to use the whole field, but instead of looking like a resivour now, it is unmistakably a race track! Almost looks like you could water it, run it in, and go green.....

. . . and then have a heart attack from the speed.

I'll admit it, I was kinda choked up over the whole thing. I've spent the bulk of my life believing it was another tall tale my dad told me when I was a kid.

Between getting teary at the parade lap and getting emotional about finding the mile, I think most of my friends have decided I spent way too many years away from racing. Or I need to check my prescriptions.

The other thing from that other thread that interests me is New Bremen. I guess if I want to track that one down, I'll have to get back to Ohio again, eh?

I recently moved to New Bremen and I found the high banked corners...it is completed grassed over but it still makes me think about all the action and legends that raced there! I had heard the Earl started the Eldora mile but it never became anyting.

I have a buddy that races Flat Track M/C on a 1/2 mile track at Greenville Ohio once or twice a year. Is this the same Greenville Track that was featured in either SC&M or FlatOut a few months back or was there anotherr Mile Track in Greenville from way back in the days of old that the feature was about that has been since developed over? It seems like the track in the article I read was

now gone.

Penn National Speedway – Grantville, PA: I was recently at a business event and from the suite overlooking the horse track you could look back to the parking lot and see the former ½ mile dirt track. It was a great facility built in 1971; racing ceased either because the cars scared the horses or they went to 7 days a week (I don't recall exactly why). When they added a casino to the horse track a few years ago, they tore down all the buildings, fencing, etc. at the car track. The track still remains and is clearly visible, banking and all. I was thinking maybe I would offer to cut the grass, so I could say I "raced" at Penn National. These ghosts of the past are such a shame. (Although the mystery mile was never used - you get my drift).

Like a N.O.S. Earl Baltes racetrack, hardly used.
