Tyler Walker Scores 5th Victory in GSC Competition

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, CA – Placerville, CA (May 29-30, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports Team would have a bevy of racing activity in store for the talented team. The weekend would be full of bullring mania, with events being held at Ocean Speedway, Friday and Placerville Speedway, Saturday. Both events would be Golden State Challenge Series races.

Walker put on a show for the fans last weekend at Calistoga Speedway. Saturday night, he took a hard one, but was ready to fight for Sunday's race by finishing fourth via his 13th starting spot in the well prepared Scott Chastain owned No. 24.

After the Calistoga events, the points would slip out of his hands and go into Jonathan Allards. With that being said, Walker loves a fight and again showed this weekend why he one of the best Sprint Car drivers in the country.

Ocean Speedway's event would be Round No. 11 for the GSC Series. Walker's night would begin with a kink in it as he would qualify the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24, 15th out of the 24 car field. However, as the night went on, Walker got better and faster. He finished second in Heat No. 3 after starting fifth.

With an uncharacteristic bad qualifying time, he would miss the dash and start 15th. When the green came out, Walker immediately got his elbows up and began his charge through the field. He was relentless and picked off car after car in the 30-lap affair. After getting around Evan Suggs, Walker went onto finish sixth.

"We just screwed up in qualifying and got behind real quick," Walker said. "But my team never gave up, and with all things considered we still had a good finish. I've got to put this race behind me, and prepare myself for Placerville."

And he did just that. Saturday the team would contend with the GSC once again. The race would be Round No. 12 for more Winged 410 Sprint Car action, this time coming on the ¼- mile bullring at Placerville Speedway.

Walker qualified eight out of the 20 car field. In Heat No. 2, Walker would make the most out of his outside front row starting spot. At the drop of the green flag, he raced into turn-1 and would never look back taking the win.

In the dash, Walker would again take advantage of his outside front row starting spot. When Walker took the checkered flag, he had at least a straightaway lead on the second place car. His win would put him on the inside of the front row next to Bud Kaeding.

He would get the jump on Kaeding when the green flag came out and immediately started to distance him from the rest of the field. In the waning laps, Jonathan Allard, who charged from sixth began challenging Walker. On the white flag lap, Allard dropped to the bottom in turns 3-4 and pulled along side Walker. However, Tyler kept his foot in it and took home an exciting win.

The Placerville win marks the team's fifth win of the season. Antioch Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, Ocean Speedway and Tulare Raceway have all been graced with the immaculate SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 in victory lane.

"We had everything go right for us tonight," Walker explained. "After qualifying bad and getting behind early last night, I wanted to make sure that I didn't do that again. I would like to thank Scott (Chastain) and my whole team. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and the fans."

Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports Team will be racing this Wednesday in the Civil War Series event dubbed "Wild Winged Wednesday". Saturday, they will make a stop at American Valley Speedway in Quincy, CA for Round No. 13, for more Golden State Challenge Series Sprint Car action.
