Does anyone know the real story on what is going on with the Middlesworth team and Kauffman? I know he did not race the #7 on Saturday night at Port Royal but did he in fact quit the team? If he did, it will be strange not seeing him race the CHIP CAR after all these years.

That's what Layton's website says, but Kauffman was definitely scheduled to run Saturday night and he definitely did not show. Those are the facts, everything else circulating is heresay, but the WORD is that Keith was not happy about the way he was told about the Layton deal (email) and decided not to show up because of it.

I know that Al Hamilton came on board as a sponsor to the team this season because he was a big surporter of Keith. If the rumors going around that Keith was informed by e mail that Layton would start driving the car at Williams Grove and Keith would drive the car at Port Royal are true, that stinks. I just don't see how a crew could set up two different cars each week for two different drivers. Hopefully some official news come out soon from the Middlesworth team that clears this situation up. I am hoping keith remains in the car. Although the team does get as many wins as they use to, KK can still drive a Sprint Car!

I believe Keith is 58 or 59. Layton would love to get that ride. It's just not right how Keith was told. He deserves better after all these years.

Well it looks like it is official after 11 seasons, 59 wins and 5 Port Royal Championships, Kauffman has been replaced in the Middlesworth #7 by Chad Layton starting this weekend.

Keith will turn 59 on Tuesday. We'll see what happens yet, who knows, maybe his stint in the #7 isn't over, if it is, then maybe he'll find another competitive ride. I sure hope so!!!

I think Brad is speculating that this deal is over because in his column, he states he has not talked to either Kauffman or Middleswarth. It appears he has quit the team but it is only speculation at this time because there have been no statements by either side.

The first photo I ever took in my sprint car career was a posed Keith Kauffman with the beautiful LEW Leon Wintermeyer sprinter in a motel parking lot in Sidney, OH. Great guy, 2nd best looking car in sprint car history in my opinion. All the best to this classy Hall of Famer, Take It Easy...

Agree MSPN, the Wintermeyer sprinter is one of the best appearing cars of all time! I think that team won the best appearing crew at the Nationals the year Keith ran it out there and finished 8th, or maybe it was the year Kenny Jacobs ran it out there and finished 2nd. That was a very competitive car!
At this point, I think everything is speculation. Layton is running the car this weekend although I doubt he does tonight because of the weather. Keith's site said to stay tuned for more details soon.

That's some of the weakest excuse making I've ever heard. When someone's done so much for you, for so long, you give them the time & opprtunity to depart on their own terms. The least you can do is look them in the eye & make sure they are the first to know. The driver change couldn't be put off one more week, to do the right thing ?
Time for UTZ to sponsor a KK driven Posse Sprint Car.

Agree. I know Middleswarth did much for Keith, but Keith did MUCH for their business also. Keith's popularity especially here in PA can only be matched by a couple of drivers.
There are some rumors about Keith's future ride, but they're just RUMORS so I'm not mentioning anything. Again, I hope the "Man from Mifflintown" is back racing much sooner rather than later!
