Oak--

The only thing that I heard is that Tommy Tarlton won. I think 9 cars? Sorry, that's all I have my man.

Chowchilla Speedway Media Release - May 31st, 2009
Matt Speed - Media Relations

Tarlton and Stanford Show the Way

On a beautiful Central California night racing was in the air as the
large crowd at the Chowchilla Speedway enjoyed the quality racing
supplied by the winged sprint cars and the ground pounding Western
Modifieds.

Fast qualifier for the sprint cars was Tommy Tarlton and that gave
him the pole position in the 30 lap main event. Tarlton jumped out
front on lap one of the main event but Ricky Wright Jr. was in hot
pursuit in second place. Craig Stidham, Andy Ferris, Garrett Ishii and
Burt Follan battled for the remaining top five positions for most of the
race. Justin Sanders moved to the high groove and worked his way
through the pack and found himself running down race leader Tarlton,
and on lap 27 Sanders got on the outside of Tarlton. When the
checkers were flying high on the sky it was Tarlton that took the
winning $1,600 prize money to the bank with Sanders, Ishii, Simone,
and Stidham rounding out the top five.

Twenty-three Western Modifieds made the trip to Chowchilla
Speedway to fight for the $1,200 winning check. Guest appearances
were made by Western All Stars Champion Chris Shannon and
Super Stock point's leader Mike Shepherd. Shannon and Shepherd
wasted no time letting everyone know they were there on business as
both won their heat races. But one of the top drivers in the modifieds
in the Western United States made his statement as well with a win in
his heat race, that driver was Alex Stanford. Garrett Steitz threw his
hat in the heated mix with a win in the trophy dash.

So with the stage set the crowd was ready to see who would be king
for night. Alex Stanford wasted no time in setting the pace for the
race, as Chris Shannon, Mike Shepherd, Garrett Steitz, Marshall
Weaver and Bob Williamson fought for second through fifth. Shannon
established himself as the domanite driver in that group and then
worked his way to the back bumper of Stanford. When the checkered
flag flew Stanford had held off the hard charging Western All Star
Champion for thirty tough laps and was rewarded with a $1,200
check for first place. A last lap wreck took Shepherd and Williamson
out of fourth and fifth positions leaving Steitz, Weaver and Derek
Colvin to round out the top five.

Top Three finishers in the Sportsman class were Tim Prothro, Joe
Diaz, and Mark Odgers. Top three in the 4-Bangers were Paul
Thorburn, Kathy Evans, and Mark Clay.

The next race event for Chowchilla Speedway is June 6th!
