Andy Gregg races to first victory of season/ Going 410 racing this weekend

By Gary Thomas

Marysville, CA – May 27, 2009…After putting together a number of solid runs to begin the season Placerville, CA's Andy Gregg was finally able to break into the win column this past weekend during a visit to the Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night.

The event was Gregg's third start of the season at the newly configured quarter-mile and he was able to pass and then hold off many-time track champ Colby Wiesz in the feature. "They've done some great things with this place and to get a win is pretty nice," said the driver of the Teams Guts Racing, Dale Miller Plumbing, Myers & Sons Drywall No. 16x. "Colby's a great driver and has always been the man at Marysville so it makes it even better to be able to get around him and hang on for our first win of the year."

Gregg lined-up on the inside of the second row in the main event and quickly moved into the runner-up spot at the waving of the green flag. The 29 year-old racer stayed close to leader Wiesz and set him up over the first few laps until blowing to the cushion in turns three and four on lap five. With Wiesz stuck to the bottom Gregg rocketed around the outside of him to take over the lead. After this he had his way with things and didn't make any mistakes the rest of the way to drive off and claim his first checkered flag of the season.

On Sunday Gregg then traveled to the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico to compete in his first California Sprint Car Civil War Series event of the season. For the night of racing he sat aboard the Bullet Racing, Ervin Sales, M&M Structures No. 53 sprinter and he kicked off the evening by qualifying second fastest in the 48 car field. Issues in his heat race though forced him into the b-main, which he would eventually win and transfer into the feature. Starting 11th on the tricky surface Gregg would go on and finish 10th after 30 laps of racing the Silver Dollar bullring.

This weekend will find Gregg throwing the 410 power-plant back under the hood of the Guts Racing No. 16x sprinter to compete with the Golden State Challenge King of California Sprint Car Series. On Friday night he hopes to make the tow to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for the 11th race of the GSC season. Last year at this event Gregg qualified ninth quick and ran ninth in the feature at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds track.

On Saturday Gregg will be in action at his home track of Placerville Speedway as the touring 410 sprint car series makes its way to the bullring for the second time this season. During the first GSC stop of the year in Placerville the "Hurricane" brought home a third place finish in the main event, which marked his first career podium with the series. So far this year Gregg has made three 410 starts and has finished fourth or better in each of them.

Following this weekend's action Gregg will be right back at it next Wednesday evening June 3 with a special event at the Placerville Speedway billed as Wild Winged Wednesday. The night of racing will be a make up show for the Civil War Series and he'll look for a good showing as the 360 tour makes its first visit of the season to the red-clay quarter-mile located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville.
