No time trials at Knoxville sucks. I know of a few cars that aint coming. With only 23 cars last sat. night. Can they afford this? It dont take that long for time trials. Just my thought. Thanks

Do not know what the big deal is about 410 time trials, they prove nothing when the green flag drops, the best and fastest surface anyway. Time trials just use up the track and are a waste of time, fuel, and tires. Draw like the 360's do, some nights you are lucky some nights you're not.
If it was up to me, I would send out the respective grouping of cars in their heat for 5 laps of hot laps, throw the yellow and have them form up and drop the green flag for the heat and away we go. Cannot believe the cars change that much in one week.

Not a bad idea but that would kind of defeat the purpose of a hot lap session wouldn't it?

For the IRA vs Knoxville race on May 9th, they had group qualifying. Don't know if you are including this in "time trials" versus draw.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss

They're no longer awarding points for time trials at Knoxville also this season. I have talked to several drivers saying they are never going to go for quick time anymore because it doesn't mean anything. Plus if you're quick time and draw a 12 for the invert you're pretty much SOL anyway depending on the track condition.

When Bronsen got quick time a couple weeks ago he pretty much told the crowd during the interview, "There, we proved we could do it, now, I'll sandbag for position like the rest of them!" (Not a direct quote, just a summation of what he said.)

I heard Maeschen on the local radio broadcast say basically the same thing. I don't think ALL of the drivers feel this way, but a good number of them share Bronsen and T-Mac's feelings.

Just a thought, could the track be doing it to prepare for the situation of just dropping time trials all together? Then they could just say that noone is taking time trials seriously so we will just stop them and draw. I wish they would.

If you start sandbagging at k,ville, youre gonna get burned as often as it helps you...you usually have about 16 or 17 guys within 2-3 tenths of a second...you will end up "sandbagging" yourself to a 18th starting position...Maeshon sandbagging...I think he could start on the pole every week and if the track is dry he's still gonna slip to 16th...now Timing, that's a different story, he definately has that part of his game down....

First if they run 410's like the 360's do then your talking about using passing point system....I as a fan like to see time trials and I also like to watch heat races where I know a guy running in the back has to pass x amount of cars to make the feature, With the passing point system you never know for sure if they made it or not unless the happen to make a run from the back to the front and with Knoxvilles heavy track during heats that doesn't happen often.
PS, the cars don't change that much in one week but the track certainly does, I race Micro Sprint and won the feature one Sunday night and loaded the car on the trailer and didn't touch the setup or tires yet a week later at the same track under almost identical weather conditions the car was way off. I had to make a few changes to get the car to handle.

I love it when drivers threaten to sandbag. Let them all sandbag and see who can play that game best! It sure beats sitting around to see who has the best motor.

Well the good news for the guys at Kville is that they are pretty much guareented to make the show with the low car counts. They don't have to worry about sandbagging putting them into the B.

I really didn't understand why they changed it this year. I can see when there are 50 cars maybe. I always thought they had about the best points deal, at least for the 410's, as any place else. I may have missed it, but I don't know the reason for the change.

In northern Ohio we have both schenarios at work.
Attica does not time trial. A pill draw lines up the heats. The top 3 from each heat redraw for the feature. The rest of the field lines up for the B & A by their finish.
At Fremont, they do time trial. Their format is similar to the All Stars.
Both systems work, with few issues. There are merits to each system.
