RIP Larry & thanks for all those years behind the wheel & behind the microphone too. You made one of my favorite quotes of all time when you said. "Wings are for airplanes & not for race cars."

What a class act, on and off the track. His announcing on Thunder, his excitement, and love for our sport was such, that it was like sitting with a big fan in the stands.

See ya at the track Larry.

Sorry to hear about this. Have many early memories of Larry Rice calling the action on Thunder. Sad to him go, but atleast we know he back with Larry Nuber and are calling the action from upsatairs. RIP Larry

Robin Miller's comments. A great tribute & must read - really - but get a hanky first...

He sure was good at the mic on Thunder. I never saw him race but he made the thunder stuff great.

Christ's peace to his family and friends.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Larry was a class act all the way. Old school and as hard core as they come. I did have the privilege of seeing him race several times. My first memory of him was one of the scariest wrecks I ever saw anyone walk away from at Reading. He flipped almost the entire length of the back straight in the early 70's. He will truly be missed!

I just wrote something about Larry Rice's passing for my Examiner.com site. For people my age who came of age in the 1980s, Larry Rice was a big reason why we started to love open wheel racing. He wasd a class act on and off the track, and will definitely be missed.
