Racing For the Troops Debuts New Tribute Car for the Soldiers

(Sacramento, CA 5-20-09)...The Racing For The Troops sprint car team is excited to unveil a new paint scheme in honor of the soldiers that help keep our homeland safe. A black and white camouflage sprint car will hit the famed half-mile Calistoga Speedway this Saturday and Sunday over Memorial Day Weekend. This special car will be driven by four-time main event winner at Calistoga Speedway Bobby McMahan. The Calistoga Speedway is hosting the King of California Golden State Challenge sprint car series for two nights of racing. The series features 410 cubic inch motors, 800 horsepower open wheel winged sprint cars. McMahan may be the person driving the car but the whole team will be present. Owner Steve Harris along with his son, Kyle Harris, and Brian Sperry will also be with the car in the infield of the oval speedway.

McMahan thought it was the right time and place for the special tribute car. “It just all made sense to have the special camouflage scheme to coincide with racing over Memorial Day Weekend at Calistoga,” said McMahan. “The speedway itself holds a lot of sentimental value if your a sprint car fan. The whole thing is just going to be a great tribute to the fans at the track and our soldiers fighting for our freedom.” After the race, The Racing For The Troops will have tribute hand outs for the fans. The team also wants to invite down all veterans, reserved or active soldiers who are attending the races this Memorial Day Weekend at the Napa County Fairgrounds.

The team is also looking for fallen soldiers to remember by putting their picture on the sprint cars front nose wing in weeks to come. The fallen soldier's family will also receive race tickets for the event that coincides with the remembrance of that soldier on the car. While the team is focused on this weekend and helping McMahan succeed at Calistoga they are still buzzing about how well Kyle Harris did last weekend. Harris, in his rookie season, led the first ten laps of the main event during point race number six at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. “Wasn't that awesome,” said McMahan when questioned about his rookie teammate. “I was so happy for him and how well he did while leading that race.” While Harris ultimately drifted back to an eighth place finish it was his run up at the front that will leave a lasting image with the team. Harris is skipping this weekend as a driver but will be on hand to soak up valuable information about the super fast half-mile dirt oval.

The Racing For The Troops team will continue a busy schedule into June and beyond. Both McMahan and Harris will be weekly competitors on Friday nights at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. They will also be racing on selected Saturday nights.
