Walker Walks Away With 4th Golden State Challenge Win
By Gary Costa
Tulare, CA (May 16, 2009) – Tyler Walker, aboard the SC Motorsports Team JEI, led all 30-laps en route to their fourth Golden State Challenge victory of the season coming at the Tulare Thunderbowl for stop No. 8, in the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. The team has now won four out of the seven races held in GSC competition. Walker was the point's leader entering the event and was focused on extending the lead in the potent SC Motorsports No. 24.
Walker started his night out qualifying the NMI Industrial Contactors No. 24 to fifth quick turning 13.664 on the 3/8-mile high-banked oval. Walker would follow Kyle Larson for second across the line in Heat No. 2. In the Dash, the field would only be able complete one circuit before the race was called. Larson tumbled and his car got tangled up in the catch fence. Due to time restraints the officials called the event.
This would put the L.A. gasser on the outside front row with Tim Kaeding who stopped by for a visit after running with the World of Outlaws. When the green flag was unfurled, Walker would get the jump and immediately went to work at the top of the racetrack on the slick racing surface.
A battle broke out halfway through the event with Walker and Tommy Tarlton. Tarlton would throw a slide job and Walker would return the favor by turning the car back under him. Walker eventually found the rubber on the racetrack then drove away and hid from the rest of the field for his fourth win.
"I'm so proud of this team, they have this JEI really dialed in," said Walker. "I love this track and all of the fans that come out here to watch us race. I need to thank all of our sponsors. The Shark Racing Engine was hitting hard and I can't wait to go to Calistoga and let it rip this weekend."
With the Tulare victory, Walker slightly lengthened his points lead over Chico's Jonathan Allard. This weekend the SC Motorsports Team's Rig will roll into Calistoga Speedway's big ½-mile over Memorial Weekend for the two-day GSC race and contest Rounds 9 & 10.
