Robby Flock and Bud Kaeding Scheduled To Drive Mike Sala Midgets
By Gary Costa
Oakdale, Ca. (May 12, 2009) – Long time car owner Mike Sala will be bringing two of his potent Midgets to compete in the companion USAC/BCRA Midget race that will be held this Saturday at Kings Speedway's 3/8-mile oval.
The Midgets have been tucked quietly away in the Oakdale shop as Sala and good friend Brian Matherly have been working feverishly on readying their Winged Sprint Car program.
Sala has hired the veteran shoes of former USAC Western States Midget Champion and former Belleville Midget Nationals Champion, Robby Flock from Murrieta and Sala's current Winged Sprint Car driver, San Jose's Bud Kaeding. Kaeding pilots the Sprint Car that is co-owned with Matherly.
Matherly will be calling the shots on both racecars this weekend. Matherly brings a plethora of experience into the Sala Racing camp. The Kaeding Performance manager calls the shots on the Sprint Car that competes in the GLR Investments Sprint Car Series. The car has yet to finish out of the top three.
The team will be utilizing an experimental Chevrolet that has been massaged by veteran engine builder, Bob Wirth. Wirth has been instrumental in Sala's success in the Midget division.
It will be a busy weekend for the team, as Kaeding will race the Sprint Car Friday night at Ocean Speedway, then hop into the No. 79 the following day. Robby Flock will be gunning for the win in the No. 19. "I'm really excited for the race this weekend." said Sala. "It's nice to be able to take out the Midgets. Robby has done a fantastic job for us in the past and Bud has been really up on the wheel in the Sprint Car. I have all of the confidence in the world in Brian, my engine builder and everyone on our team."
Mike Sala Racing is quick to thank Bob Wirth, Weldway Construction, Weldway Incorporated, Paul Oil, Kaeding Performance and M&M Powder Coating.
