Sprint Cars Ready for War at Ocean Speedway

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, CA – May 12, 2009….Fast and furious racing will return this Friday night to Ocean Speedway to host Round No. 4 of the ultra-competitive Winged Sprint Car Series at the ¼-mile speed plant. Promoter John Prentice has put up a $1,000 bounty to any driver that wins the main event who has not competed this year with the GLR Investments 360 Sprint Cars. The extra $1,000 will bring this Friday's race total to $2,500 to the lucky outsider.

The GLR Investments Sprint Car Series has had three races thus far, with three different drivers taking the checkered flag. Campbell resident Brent Kaeding won Round No. 1, Grass Valley's Jason Statler took Round No. 2, and last weekend, Prunedale's Justin Sanders pocketed Round No. 3.

The schedule calls out for 14 overall rounds of fierce racing held at the beautiful speedway near the ocean. The fans are treated to a wide variety of drivers and the series plays host to some of the best in the business. 11 rounds remain and October 16th the champion will be crowned.

Coming into Round No. 4 defending series veteran Brent Kaeding has shown that he hasn't lost a step. Currently Kaeding is the point's leader in the BK Motorsports No. 69. Kaeding will carry a 1 point lead into the event.

Kaeding finished fourth during last weeks event, but has remained consistent in all three races held thus far. Look for the 13-time King of California veteran to mash the gas and thrill fans with his take no prisoners driving style.

San Jose driver Bud Kaeding is hot on his father's heels and has garnered 1 second place finish and two third place finishes in the three events. Bud finished third last weekend and will have his eyes set on getting his first win this season in the Sala/Matherly Motorsports No. 19.

Scott's Valley hot shoe Evan Suggs is sitting third in the points and is a threat to win anytime that he hits the racetrack. Suggs chased last week's winner Justin Sanders to the checkered flag. Suggs sits a mere 11 points behind point leader Brent Kaeding in the potent Suggs Racing No. 33.

Justin Sanders who hails from Prunedale sits fourth in the standings. The 17-year-old Sanders has been nothing less than phenomenal. The impressive young shoe garnered his first ever Sprint Car victory last Friday on a tricky surface in the Sanders Motorsports No. 17.

Rounding out the top 5 in the standings is Pleasanton veteran Brad Furr. The always exciting Furr put on a show after flipping his No. 2 mount down the backstretch then proceeded to come from the back-of-the-pack to finish an impressive seventh thrilling the fans along the way in Round No. 3.

Other drivers seeking Round No. 4 supremacy include Salinas' Ronnie Day, Easton's Tommy Tarlton, Santa Cruz's Kevin Pylant, Fresno's Mike Stallings, Morgan Hills Ricky Wright, Jr., San Martin's Craig Smith, Visalia's Cory Eliason, Gilroy's Kurt Nelson, Fremont's Jason Newton and more.

Pit gate opens at 1:00 with the front gate opening at 4:00. Racing starts at 6. Adults are $15, kids 6-12 $9, all kids under 5 free. Family $40 (2 Adults and 2 Children), Senior $12 with I.D. (65 yrs+). For more information please log onto www.oceanspeedway.com or call the speedway at (831) 476-9466

Thank you for the nice comments, I really appreciate them. Yes, I will be doing the PR for Ocean Speedway; however Al is still the top dog for GLR.

I would like to add that if you’re a team that is contemplating in racing at Ocean Speedway or are interested in visiting Ocean Speedway, please feel free to contact me anytime or call the office at (831) 476-9466. If you’re a current driver, team, sponsor or fan and you have a question or comment, please feel free to contact me as well. Your voice counts.

Respectfully, Gary Costa
