Anyone know what happend to the track in Hawaii? I know they used to run winged 360's there and had USAC SW come over a few years ago. I was in Hawaii last week and drove out by the track and it appeared to be a ghost town and their website shows no races on a schedule. I was hoping to catch a sprint show last week while on vacation. Anyone got any scoop?

I don't know, staggerman, but I will be happy to get right over to Hawaii and check it out. Maybe someone at the beach or on the golf course will know. Hula pie here I come!
Everything you know is wrong.

Yup, no more race track on Oahu. The 1/4 mi. dragstrip, road course, 1/4 mi. dirt oval and go kart track are in the process of being dismantled. I was there in early Feb. We used part of the former dragstrip to push off my friend's new 360 sprinter, (which he is bringing to the CA this month to do some racing in P'ville and Chico). We were told that the dragstrip pavement was scheduled to be ripped up the next day. Ask 10 people and you'll probably get 10 different explanations but, as I understand, it the property owner was willing to renew the lease but the lessee declined to renew it because they hoped to build a new racing facility on land formerly occupied by the now inactive Barber's Point Naval Air Station. As things now stand, no new home for the race tracks has been found. The old facility had been there for over 30 years. Too bad they couldn't have found a new location before closing the existing one. There are plenty of race cars sitting idle on Oahu right now. There are still dragstrips on Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. Maui has a go kart track and the Big Island has a small dirt oval.
