Jimmy Pettit runs 4th during exciting wingless feature at Silver Dollar Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – May 12, 2009…Competing as part of Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial weekend at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, Chico's Jimmy Pettit brought home another top five finish in one most exciting wingless main events at the track in recent memory.

This past Friday's event marked the fifth Feather Falls Casino point race of the season, but in reality was the third race of the year due to a pair of rainouts. During the first two Friday night shows Pettit scored a win and a third place finish and brought the wingless point lead into this most recent Friday, which was sponsored by Fauver Race Ready Rentals.

The Silver Dollar Speedway surface was very wet to begin the night and it made for a very fast surface. Pettit started from the fifth spot in his heat race and immediately shot into third aboard the Skyway Tool Center, Esplanade Taco Bell, Hunt Magnetos No. 24p. Veteran Bill Wallace was able to get by though and Pettit spent the rest of the heat race hounding his rear bumper, but couldn't find a way by and settled for fourth at the finish.

"The Love-shack" lined-up from the inside of the fourth row in the main event and ran smoothly over the first half of the race as everyone was locked down on the lightning fast bullring. As the laps wound down Pettit moved into fourth and the top five cars began to bunch up and make for an exciting finish right down to the wire. The driver of the Ing Excavation, Pep Boys, Kevin Sharrah Designs sprinter looked to poke his nose into third a couple of times, while having pressure on his bumper as well, but was able to hang tough and crossed the checkered flag in fourth to score his third top five in three starts.

Next up for Jimmy Pettit and the No. 24p team will be this Friday's sixth Feather Falls Casino point race, which is sponsored by Moore Insurance & Financial Services. Going into the night the "Love-shack" will bring a 13 point lead in the Silver Dollar Speedway wingless standings as he continues to search for his first career track title at the Chico quarter-mile.

Hot on Pettit's heels are former wingless champ Brandon Davis, who is second in points, as well as Taylor Simas & Jay Youngman who are both 14 back of the lead in third. "We just have to keep doing what we're doing," Pettit said. "Ron Kalpakoff has had this car hooked up and we've been right in the thick of things each and every night so that's really all we can ask for. The track's been racy this year so that's been a lot of fun and we'll be trying hard to get back into victory lane on Friday."

The front gate will open at 6pm this Friday for Moore Insurance Services Night, with qualifying scheduled for 7 and racing at 7:30. More info at
