Mason Moore brings home first top five finish of Feather Falls point season at Silver Dollar Speedway/ Moore Insurance Night this Friday

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – May 11, 2009…Princeton's Mason Moore put together his strongest night so far this season at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday evening and capped the event by scoring his first top five finish of the Feather Falls point year behind the wheel of the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services No. 22.

Moore went into the evening sitting sixth in the Feather Falls standings and looked to make up ground in the points as he sat just 14 digits out of the lead. With the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial coming up the following night a very stacked field of 33 cars was present on Friday and Moore began the evening by cutting the fourth fastest lap of the night, which was his best qualifying effort of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway.

He then started from the sixth spot in the fourth heat race, but was collected in a chain reaction incident that started in front of him, which forced him to restart at the rear of the field. The lightning fast race track made passing chances extremely hard to come by and Moore fell in line at the waving of the green flag, but would get over the cushion on the fifth circuit sending him upside down off the first & second corners, putting an end to the heat.

With the strong qualifying effort "Primetime" lined-up on the front row of the semi main and when the green lights came on settled into second behind veteran driver Bobby McMahan. Moore kept pace with McMahan for the entire 12 laps of racing and brought home a runner-up finish to transfer the Rolling Hills Casino, Withrow's Motorsports, NOS Energy Drink No. 22 into the main event. The track continued to get faster as the night went on and made for very hooked-up conditions in the 25 lap feature, but the 18 year-old racer was able to do a nice job to move up a few spots from his fourth row starting position and score a fifth place finish at the checkered flag.

On Saturday the decision was made to skip the scheduled Placerville Speedway point race and put the teams' 410 power-plant under the hood of the Friends & Family Racing No. x1 to compete in the prestigious Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. The F&F team has sentimental connections with the event as co-owner Alan Bradway is the brother of the late Dave Bradway Jr. and fellow co-owner Steve Tuccelli is married to Karen Bradway, the sister of Alan and Dave.

Moore started off the night by qualifying strong once again, but he was deemed to have exceeded the state mandated sound level and was forced to re-qualify. Moore's one lap at the end of the session was good enough for just 32nd quick, which was a tough beginning to the evening considering he would have been top 10 in qualifying had the sound rule not come into play. He was then forced to charge from deep in his heat race and the youngster was able to do a great job as he rode the high side all the way up to fourth, which transferred him directly into the feature.

Scoring a transfer in the heat race was very important since he would have been stuck way back in the b-main had he not got up to the top four. Moore started 20th on the grid and despite a broken shock was able to run a smart 40 laps of competition as he dodged many of the wrecks that plagued much of the feature. The 18 year-old hung on and crossed the stripe in 10th at the checkered, in what was his first Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series start of the season. The main event was eventually won by two-time GSC champ Jonathan Allard who passed USAC National Sprint & Midget racer Brad Sweet on the final corner.

Moore Insurance & Financial Services Night this Friday-

The next scheduled event for "Primetime" Mason Moore will be this coming Friday's sixth Feather Falls Casino point race at Silver Dollar Speedway, which happens to be sponsored by Moore Insurance Services. The youngster will go into the night sitting fifth in the standings, just 13 points out of the lead and will look to put the No. 22 machine into victory lane on his family's sponsor night. Then on Saturday Moore will get back behind the wheel of the F&F Racing No. x1 for a weekly 360 show at the Placerville Speedway.

The front gate will open at 6pm on Friday for Moore Insurance Services Night at the Silver Dollar Speedway with qualifying expected to get underway around 7. More info on the event can be found at
