Tarlton Sprint Cars Run Strong over Weekend's Races

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, Ca. - Bakersfield, Ca – (May 8-9, 2009) – Tom Tarlton's Sprint Car's would have a busy weekend, as son Tommy Tarlton would compete in Winged Sprint Car action at Ocean Speedway, and Peter Murphy would compete with the West Coast 360 Non-Wing Sprint Cars, where he is the current points leader.

Tarlton, has been struck with bad luck the previous weeks, and was hopeful for a better evening. He proceeded to take the Tarlton & Son, Inc., No. 21 around the speedway turning a 12.260 which was good enough for second quick out of the 25 car field.

Tarlton would go onto finish second in Heat No. 2, which would line him up in the fifth position for Round No. 3 of the GLR Investments 360 Sprint Car Series main event. Tommy would do his best on the tricky speedway, running the top and bottom of the racetrack, trying to find something. The main event was cut to 25-laps, and Tarlton would finish in the fifth position.

Peter Murphy would race Saturday at Bakersfield Speedway. Murphy is fresh off of a win the previous weekend that came at Santa Maria Speedway. Murphy would tow into Bakersfield seeking his third win in the series.

Murphy qualified ninth out of the 19 car field with a 14.135 lap. The evening would start out great for the personable Murphy by convincingly winning Heat No. 3. In the 30-lap feature, Murphy would chase Davey Pombo across the line for second place. Murphy's second place finish, would extend his points lead even further. He also hasn't finished out of the top-3 in 6 Non-Wing starts.

-Up Next For Tarlton Motorsports! Tommy Tarlton will be racing this Friday and Saturday. Friday, Tarlton will be looking to improve on his seventh place in the GLR point standings. The next night, the team will drop in a 410 power plant and will also be racing with the Golden State Challenge Series at the Tulare Thunderbowl. Look for Peter Murphy to be a threat to win at Tulare as well. He will be piloting a Tarlton Sprint Car in Bandit Non-Wing competition. Back on April 18th, Tulare was the site for an incredible race between USAC/CRA Sprint Car star Danny Sheridan and Murphy.
