Steve King Memorial
ASCS National Tour to roar into Jetmore May 23-24 $10,000 to win 2 day event will also honor Steve King
Jetmore, Kans (April 2, 2009). – The hard charging competition of the Lucus Oil American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) National Tour presented by K&N Filters will make its way to the Jetmore MotorPlex for two nights of racing action, May 23-24, 2009. The Steve King Memorial, presented by Coors Light, boasts a $10,000 to win prize to the first car to cross the finish line.
The Memorial Day weekend races are expected to include a field of over 60 cars. The races will also serve as a fundraiser for the Steve King Fund which is part of the Hodgeman Country Community Foundation. The fund provides assistance to local residents in need and provides scholarships to local youth.
“I am excited to bring ASCS to the Jetmore MotorPlex,” Tony Bruce, Jr., who is promoting the event said. “And like many of my racing peers, when I think of Jetmore, I immediately think of Steve so it is only fitting that this Memorial Day Weekend racing event be in his memory.”
King, a Jetmore native, lost his life after a sprint car accident at the 2006 Knoxville Nationals. The two time NCRA champion also raced the ASCS circuit.
The City of Jetmore has proclaimed May 23, 2009, the 2nd Annual Steve King Day. Activities include a golf tournament, parade, race car display, remote control car sprint car competition and a quilt show.
Besides the happenings in Jetmore, the MotorPlex will be geared up for some serious racing fun.
“All fans will be allowed in the pit area free of charge until 4 pm to get a close look at the cars and hang out with their favorite drivers,” Bruce added.
A quilt with photos of King and his cars will also be sold during a live auction Saturday night. There will also be a drawing during Sunday’s race for a very unique one of kind Coors Light neon. Versus, the outdoor sporting channel, will also be on hand to tape the races for a July air date. There will be a sign contest and the winner will get to be on TV! And, adding to the racing excitement will be racing action by past United Rebel Racing Series (URRS) champions.
The green flag will drop each night at 7 pm. Fans can enjoy savings off of the ticket price by pre-purchasing a two day weekend general admission pass online. For race details, entry forms or to pre-purchase tickets, visit www.tonybrucejr.com.
