I found this on the dmregister.com page.

It doesn't appear to be anything new but I figured I would post it anyway.

I'm sure the rag ister trimmed it to fit at the end of the weekly racing columm. It lacks the enthusiasm I would like to hear from the promoter of the dirt racing capital of the world.

The "both" of our notables are back quote is a sad way to sell the up and coming drivers that fill the 360 and 410 ranks there as if Brown and Alley are all they have going. Knoxville should let Bockhoven do the interviews in the future he understands how to sell.

Hey Knoxville I will gladly and at no charge handle your PR for the rest of the season and actually sell your product to the press. I know you won't take me up on my offer but I can do a better job than this.

Q&A with Ralph Capitani

Capitani, Knoxville Raceway’s director of racing, has long been considered one of sprint car racing’s most influential figures. The track begins its 56th season of racing Saturday. Capitani, 77, will be there, as always, to help coordinate the events.

Q: What’s the biggest rule change at Knoxville this season?

A: We’re running a flat, square wing. Obviously, it’s meant to cut down on the need for horsepower. The biggest difference is they’re spending $500 for a flat wing and were spending $1,100-$1,200 on some of those other exotic wings, so it’s designed to cut costs.

Q: There are qualifying rules changes, too, right?

A: The two-lap time trial is close to a thing of the past except for Nationals and maybe the week before. So we’re either going to one-lap time trial or group time. There will be a couple of nights where we’ll draw. We don’t tell them what we’re doing that night until they get here. We won’t draw very often — and (the draw) was the one that upset (racers) the most. To my knowledge the only other track in the United States that uses time trials besides us is Husets (Speedway, S.D.). Everybody else, it’s draw.

Q: How’s the 410 field shaping up?

A: Both of our notables are back, (Billy) Alley and (Brian) Brown. The sleeper in this, as far as I’m concerned, is the (Mark) Dobmeier kid. He’s going to be tough. The biggest returner will be Johnny Herrera, a former track champion.

More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Gotta agree that it sure seems to lack much enthusiasm. I do wonder, as you did, if the Register failed to carry the entire interview.

That was about it. It was just a small item on the racing page, so to speak.

Why would they want to cover the races? Just a bunch of rednecks driving in circles. How hard is that? Anyone can do it, right?

Maybe the races would get more coverage if the racers were real athletes like golfers and bowlers.

Sarcasm folks.

Now see, you forgot poker players. After all, ESPN covers them, so it must be a sport & they must be athletes, right? Not like those people that only sit in a car & turn left.

More sarcasm folks
