Tarlton Sprint Cars Run in three Series over Weekend

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, Ca. – Hanford, Ca (April 17-18, 2009) – The Tom Tarlton owned Sprint Cars had a busy weekend, as Tommy Tarlton would race Friday at Ocean Speedway for Round #2 of GLR 360 Winged Sprint Car Series. Then on Saturday a trio of the immaculately prepared Tarlton Sprint Cars would compete at Hanford, as Peter Murphy and Michael Faccinto would compete in the West Coast 360 Non-Wing Sprint Car division, with Tommy again wheeling the Winged Sprint Car.

At Ocean Speedway, Tommy would qualify fifth out of the 27 cars on hand; powering his way to a 12.498 in the Shark powered No. 21 Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Maxim. He would then finish second in Heat 2. In the 30-lap feature event, Tommy was looking to shrug off the bad luck that plagued him in Round #1. When the green flag flew, Tommy was moving forward and was running in the fourth position before disaster struck on the third lap. Trying to avoid a wreck, he suffered major front end damage.

It was in the work area that the hard working Tarlton Team, led by Paul Baines, worked feverishly to get the car back out on the track. From there, Tommy went to the back-of-the-pack and was a man on a mission picking off cars, eventually working his way to a hard fought eighth place finish.

The following day, the team was off to Hanford to compete on the 3/8-mile surface.

In West Coast 360 Sprint Car action, Michael Faccinto would qualify the Tarlton & Son, Inc., Maxim No. 21T in the third spot with a 16.648 qualifying effort. Peter Murphy would qualify in the fifth spot with a 16.694 in a twin Tarlton & Son Inc., No. 21.

In Heat 1 action, Faccinto finished third, with Murphy, who is coming off of a second place finish in Bandit Sprint Car competition the previous weekend in Tulare, claimed the top-spot in Heat 2. In main event action, Peter Murphy chased eventual winner, Cory Kruseman to the line to score second place with Faccinto placing 12th, after suffering a DNF.

In Rebel Winged 360 Sprint Car action, Tommy Tarlton would look to back up his win previous win at the track that came on March 14. Tarlton went on to win Heat 2. In the main event, Tommy would finish second in the 25-lapper.

-Up Next For Team Tarlton! Peter Murphy and Tommy Tarlton will both be in action at Ocean Speedway this weekend April 25th, to compete with the Golden State Challenge Winged 410 Sprint Cars.
